OOC: I'm hoping Pebbletail can come across some cats from the Rebellion here. (Yes, even Grimykit.) Because she has heard of it and wants to join up. Badly. Of course, anyone else is welcome to stroll by too.
BIC:
To fight or not to fight. Was certainly not a question that needed pondering over.
What did need pondering over was how to fight.
The small gray she-cat had listened to scraps of gossip, traveled, confirmed a few rumors, and finally come here. Close to where she'd heard Beetlepaw, leader of the Rebellion, had been seen recently.
But unfortunately, there was no Beetlepaw here. At least, no cat she'd asked so far - two - had turned out to be her. The shade- colored con sighed.
Lying down in the hot sand, she wondered how to locate the cat who was the key to fulfilling her purpose in life.
Well...maybe she shouldn't go that far. It wasn't really Beetlepaw herself who mattered so much as her cause...any of the Rebellion would be fine, really. If she could trust them. She hoped there was no hidden Clanner in their ranks.

Shadestream had recently lowered herself to the point of a scavenger and was still shuddering from the indignity of it all. Of course, as a con she didn't really mind thieving from others, especially from those stupid Clanners, but she hadn't eaten for days and didn't have enough strength to fight for a kill. Therefore she was forced to salvage the disgusting remains of a dead rat and a lizard.
The black she-cat, after grumbling about her meager meals, wondered whether anything interesting was happening. How was the experiment Clan doing? Very badly, she hoped, but she couldn't be too sure until she asked her fellow Rebellion members. Now that her stomach was sated, not entirely, but just enough, she should turn to the job of recruiting other anti-clanners.
Submersed in her thoughts, Shadestream barely noticed that she had almost walked over another she-cat. She only took heed of the latter when her hind foot grazed fur and she was jolted out of her reverie. Whipping her head around to face the gray, she snapped, "Don't you have anything better to do than lie in the sand and wait for someone to trip over you?" She glared down at Pebbletail, but a small voice inside her head said, "What if she's a con?" and Shadestream relaxed her posture ever so slightly.
In a gruff tone, she inquired, "Are you a con or a Clanner?"

Huh. Wonderful. Some lizardbrain nearly tripped over her. Turning her pale green gaze to the cat next to her, she looked up and said, "You blame me for you not looking where you were going?" Privately she would have liked to snap back, but Pebbletail only snapped if it was worth snapping over. Almost being tripped over was annoying, but not worth a fight. A smooth retort would do.
Not surprised by the gruff request soon after, she meowed, "I am a con. I hope you are, too? If you are not, I'll leave. But if so, and if you are part of the Rebellion, I would be particularly glad to speak to you longer, for I've a small request to ask."
She tilted her head slightly, cautiously hopeful that the black she-cat would prove to be what she was looking for.

She gave no sign of hearing Pebbletail's first statement other than narrowing her eyes slightly and twitching her tail tip. But her next words stirred some interest inside Shadestream. "Of course." Those two words answered both questions, she being a con and a member of the Rebellion. "And what kind of request is that?" she asked, keeping her tone carefully polite.

Satisfied that her originally temperamental companion seemed to have reverted to being decent, Pebbletail relaxed a bit, one ear flicking, and even more so at her answer. Perfect.
In a confident but pleasant tone, she spoke.
"Very good. I would like to join the Rebellion."
No use wasting words. The sooner she got her request across, the sooner she could get doing things of importance. Of course, it was also a question of how well organized the Rebellion was, but hopefully she'd learn all that and more soon.

A thought that hadn't crossed her mind before now grabbed Shadestream into its depths. Where had this cat learned about the Rebellion? It was unlikely that she was friends with a member, or she would've asked them instead of searching for someone who was one already. Although Beetlepaw hadn't mentioned the Rebellion's secrecy (or had she?), surely it was important to hide the fact that a group of cats were trying to rebel against the experiment Clan? If the she-cat knew about it, it was possible that some Clanners did too. Hiding the disturbing thought from her facial expression, she said, "Beetlepaw is the one you want. She's the founder of the Rebellion... have you heard of her?" [/blockquote]

It was as she'd suspected. The gray she-cat sighed softly, her striped tail twitching slightly in small frustration. It did seem she would need to speak to the leader after all. Back to learning to scavenge instead of closing in on the rat.
"Yes, I was initially seeking her out when I came here 'cause I'd heard she'd been around this part of the enclosure lately, but I figured any member of the Rebellion I could talk to would be good. It seems I must revert to my original goal. Could you tell me where to find her? I'd grateful if you can and would, 'cause I really wanna join and do things to those stupid Clanners."

She would be grateful... Well, it was always good to have someone in your debt and seeing that she had nothing to do, the black she-cat obliged to Pebbletail's request. "I'm not sure of her exact location, as cats don't stay in one place forever... I could help you look around, though." She paused, realizing that she didn't even know the other feline's name. "What's your name?"

Excellent. Whoever this cat was, she was a potential ally and she seemed to be cooperative and polite for the most part. Very good. Pebbletail smiled slightly, her whiskers moving just the tiniest bit.
"Ah, thank you. I appreciate that you are helping me, it means a lot. I am Pebbletail. And you?"
This should be a nice trip with a reward at the end of it.

ooc: This is when Thistle calls for Moddy to come and post. c:
"Shadestream. Let's just patrol around the enclosure for a bit and see if we can spot Beetlepaw; she's a thin brown tabby, by the way." Head cocked arrogantly, she led Pebbletail near the wall and scanned the area. No Beetlepaw, but there were a couple of crickets hopping around. Without much thought, the black cat lunged at one and killed it quickly, then pounced on another. Crickets weren't her favorite snacks, but whatever -- they'd have something to eat. She snapped up one insect and gestured to Pebbletail with a nod as though saying that she could eat. Shadestream was being strangely generous that day.
"You eat. I'll tell you if I see her."
