Wide, amber eyes watched the every movement of the round insect. The feline was hungry, yet... was hesitant about attacking this prey. It just didn't seem right. A 'beetle' eating a beetle.
Even though the two creatures looked nothing alike, and obviously weren't of the same species, it was still quite awkward for the young cat. It felt like eating this bug should be against a rule of some kind. Not that the she-cat followed rules, anyways.
She was hungry, yes, but the only word that was on her mind at the moment was simple; cannibalism. Would that make her cannibalistic? She had no clue. She had never been a very smart one.
Just watching the beetle made the she-cat feel wrong. When it came to beetles, she just happened to get... too attached? Was that the right word? It seemed to be that way; considering the fact that becoming easily attached ran in her family.
The black insect finally decided that it was time for it to leave. It was too risky here. It wasn't quick and, if she wanted to, the she-cat could easily catch up with it. If she wanted to, which she didn't.
The brown tabby watched it crawl away and then looked away with a grunt of annoyance. And that settled it.
Beetlepaw was not a cannibal.

A tall, tabby tom sauntered forward. "Need help catchin' that thar bug, pretty kitty? I can do that for ya," Grimykit offered - more to flaunt his skills than out of courtesy. "I's real good at gettin' these 'uns." He lowered into a crouch, not expecting her to refuse.

What was she supposed to say? 'Oh, no, I didn't want to catch it because then I don't know if that's cannibalism or not'? No, that was stupid. She'd just have to think of something else.
"Sure. Knock yourself out," she shrugged, not really caring whether he caught it or not. She knew one thing and that was that she wasn't gonna eat it.
"Oh, and, name's Beetlepaw, not 'pretty kitty'." She mewed.

"Beetlepaw?" he echoed, as if this were a foreign anomaly. "Wait up a sec." He made quick work of the beetle and swallowed it after a few cursory crunches. Only afterward did it occur to him that she might've wanted it, but who cared? "So ya've got that 'pprentice part to yer name? 'Sat why ya can't catch nothin'? Ya still learnin'?" She looked too old not to know how to catch a bug.

"Oh, yes, I'm definitely still learning," she said mockingly, "but I just have no one to show me all the stuff. Y'see, every time I ask for help, other cats just say that they only have time to help themselves here. Which is why, well..." she paused so she could make everything look more dramatic--- well, as dramatic as a matted, dirty-looking cat could make it.
"Well... I've been waiting for a handsome tom to come around, just so he could help me out a little, you know? Because I would be eternally grateful to whoever did so," she nodded. "But that's why you showed up, right? Right?"
None of what she said was true. It was all a lie. She just figured she'd mess with him. How stupid was he, anyways? Did she look like an apprentice? Not as fair as she was concerned.

Grimykit puffed out his chest and licked his shoulder, playing it cool. "Nah, not really," he drawled in a casual tone. "But I sure can show ya a few thangs. Waddaya wanna know?"

"N-not really? W-well..." Beetlepaw mewed, using mock-sadness. "I-I mean... I don't know. What do you think a cool tom like yourself could teach me? I bet whatever you decide to do will be good. Not as good-looking as you, but good." The she-cat could barely keep herself from laughing right here and now.

A smirk spread across his muzzle. "Well, lessee..." he meowed, looking her over. With an exaggerated strut, he moved closer. "I could show ya how ta make kits!"

Well, this was going a bit too far. But, Beetlepaw wasn't done with her game yet. She'd go a little farther and then quit soon enough.
"Really?" She asked excitedly. "Oh, I absolutely adore kits with their cute little kit faces and their cute little kit tails and their cute little kit paws and their cute little kit everything!" Truth was, Beetlepaw actually had considered kits. Just not with some cat she hardly knew. In fact, she didn't even know his name.
But before anything drastic could happen, she added on: "I'm just kiddin', though!" She laughed. "I can't believe you fell for the trick!" This was just too good.

Trick? What did she mean, trick? She didn't want kits with the best warrior in the enclosure? Grimykit wrinkled his nose at her poor judgment. "Oh yeah, real funny, smart dirt," he grumbled, swatting at her ear.
