Rainstripe's eyes widened in fear as Sandwhisker tensed her muscles as if she were about to run away. Obviously, she had noticed the same signs of hostility Rainstripe had, and from what Sandwhisker was doing, she could infer that neither she nor Sandwhisker wanted to be here if the toms were going to fight. The gray tabby she-cat backed away, then decided to answer Spiderpaw's reply. "I'd rather stay hungry than risk the chance that we might end up worse off than we already are," she shot back. "And besides, how would we know our leader was telling the truth, hm? Sure, they might promise to help us and stop hunger, but when they actually become leader, they could go back on all those promises and use the power for their own personal gain. Personally, I don't care if the leader we choose is perfect as can be, I don't want someone running my life, telling me what to do, ordering me around. This is my life! I am the boss of me! Not some leader that thinks they know what's best for me. I know what's best for me! How could you want to be- be slaves to some 'chosen cat'? It's sickening!" Rainstripe's voice was a desperate yowl, her loud, angry protests begging the other cats to understand.

Frozenheart was pained to see Rainstripe in distress. He hated to see cats upset like this. Hoping to calm her, he padded over to her and licked her ear.

Smudgeheart chuckled at Rainstripe's reply. He found it amusing that she had become so stressful because of one simple question.
"I see that you're quite dramatic," the tom mewed. "Are you saying that you'd rather die than be in a Clan? I would think that most cats would agree to something if their life depended on it." He questioned, not really understanding her strange way of replying. He found it amusing, yes, but it was also confusing.
"Okay, I think that you've got this all wrong, er... what's your name?" He asked Rainstripe before adding, "A leader wouldn't run your life, that's your job. You wouldn't be a slave but a follower. And, at times, you don't know what's best for yourself. Mistakes are made. But in a Clan, mistakes might be less frequent." He nodded curtly, hoping that she understood.
"What? Answer me this, if you will," he paused for a moment before asking, "why would a leader lie to us? What does he or she have to gain from that?" He couldn't help but look at the gray tabby like she was insane.

"Oh yes, because a slave is /so/ different from a follower," Rainstripe yowled sarcastically. "Tell me, do they both follow orders? Yes. Do they both rely on the leader to make every decision? Yes. I would rather die than have someone making all my decisions for me! I'd rather be free than well-fed. How do you a leader wouldn't make mistakes, hm? They wouldn't know what's best for me, and so when making all my decisions, they might make more mistakes than I do. I think I know myself better than any leader. And my name is Rainstripe," she added, before continuing her rant. "Of course, a leader could gain everything from lying to us. Or don't you remember how we ended up stuck in this enclosure in the first place?" Then she turned away from him, and looked over at Frozenheart. She was starting to like him, although it was still nerve-wracking for her to talk to any of these cats. Her angry, burning words had kept her anxiety away from that stupid tom, but when faced with a cat she didn't hate, her paws froze up. "U-um, thank you," she stammered. "So, you do agree, don't you? About what I said?"

Frozenheart nodded, for he agreed with most of what she had said. He then turned his blue eyes on Smudgeheart, taking a protective stance beside Rainstripe. It was cruel of him to treat her like this when it was obvious that she had fragile emotions. He would not permit this to continue.

"No need for sarcasm," Smudgeheart said calmly. "How am I supposed to answer your questions if you answer them for yourself? Yes, a slave is different from a follower. A follower chooses to follow something while a slave is forced to." He nodded.
"....you'd rather die?" He repeated. "Well, if you aren't well-fed, you'll die. If you die, you won't be free for long. And I didn't say a leader wouldn't make mistakes. Though with a Clan, it'd be easier to fix them and they wouldn't become worse. How do you know that a leader would make mistakes? Plus," he added on, "a leader has more cats to assist him. He has the whole Clan to assist him. Of course, it's their choice whether they want to help him or not, though." He pointed out.
"Okay, Rainstripe," he nodded again. "Though... what would a leader gain in this enclosure? I really don't know of anything, besides the satisfaction of knowing that the cats who live around him or her are healthy."
Smudgeheart tried his best to ignore the other tom, though it was difficult. It would be easier if he had a bit more tolerance. Why did this she-cat allow him to "protect" her like that? It wasn't right. It never would be.
"I don't think Rainstripe needs you to hover over her like that," he nodded towards Frozenheart. "I assure you that I mean no harm to her."

ooc| D: But fights are fun. bic|
Frozenheart took a step forward, glaring at Smudgeheart. He was trying to convince Rainheart that a Clan would be a good thing - and he couldn't let that happen. Even if it would be good for others, he was sure it would be bad for him. Didn't this guy have some she-cat to look for? He'd better cut the conversation and leave.
The white tom fluffed his fur and growled, tired of warnings.

Silverpaw's ears caught the sounds of growling and meowing, the subject being if the cats should become a clan. The sliver tabby licked her paw and swiped it over her ear, watching the white tom's fur fluff up. A fight might break out, Silverpaw thought, green eyes narrowing in interest. The she-cat's tail slowly moved to and fro, narrowed eyes waiting for the cats to entertain her.

>>ooc. I'm not good at role playing them, though. :C
<<bic. Smudgeheart blinked and backed away a bit. He wasn't sure what was happening. He knew that he was being threatened, but didn't quite understand why. All he was doing was conversing with the she-cat. What was the harm in that? Unless the white tom saw him as a threat. That would be wrong. He wasn't the threat, Frozenheart was the threat... right? That had to be right. There was no other possible explanation... right?

ooc| We've had two rat hunts but are only now starting to enter the realm of cat-to-cat fighting. bic| "I don't know about you, but I'm tired of this same old same old life," Spiderpaw meowed. "Sure, there's the possibility that things might turn out worse, but if we never try to make things better, where would we be? I'm sure our ancestors, left alone here in the dark, wouldn't want us to be in anarchy just like they were." Though the young she-cat was a bit naive, she did notice Frozenheart growling at Smudgeheart. Her earlier nervousness returned. 'Maybe I should go,' she thought.
