While Blackfoot was struggling, Patchfur ran up behind and slashed at its tail. It hissed and turned around to face its new opponent. Patchfur answered with a yowl and lashed out at its face with a paw, missing, but managing to graze an ear.

The rat squeaked in pain as Patchfur's claw caught his ear. He hissed and began to flee. Blackfoot, now able to manage on three legs, swiped at it, trying to drive it back towards the cats.

Speckledclaw hissed in disappointment. The rat had bitten someone. Hopefully they would be able to catch and kill it soon.
The rat was trying to flee, and Speckledclaw estimated that it would run just a little to her right. Claws at the ready, she pounced again. The rat skidded to a halt as she came flying at it, and veered sharply to the left as Speckledclaw proceeded to give chase. The rat was injured, and Speckledclaw could manage larger strides.
Soon, she was cornering the rat and pouncing again.

Patchfur ran behind the rat, driving it even closer to Speckledclaw. He motioned for Blackfoot to come up on another side with his tail. Watching Speckledclaw's pounce, he didn't think the hunt was going to last that long. Still, it was good to be prepared.

Blackfoot took the hint and limped as quickly as she could to Patchfur's side. The rat was now completely enclosed inside a circle of cats. It had nowhere to run. Blackfoot stood, attentive of the rat's every move, awaiting Speckledclaw's final blow.

Although chances of the rat surviving had dramatically dropped by now, the little thing was sure putting up a fight nonetheless. It squirmed and dodge with what energy it had left, making Speckledclaw hiss with concentration.
Finally she was able to get her claws on it with a mighty leap, and quickly slit its throat. Then she pulled back, looking at the kill.
She turned around, grinning at the other cats. "Alright - shall we start to divide our catch? I don't mind going last."

Patchfur shook his head. "No, you were the one that delivered the final blow. You should eat first. I'll eat last," he meowed, though his stomach protested. It was only fair that Speckledclaw get to eat first, seeing as she had done most of the work. And Blackfoot should, too, though for a different reason.

Blackfoot beamed at the catch. Her first rat in ages! "Yes, you should eat first, Speckledclaw," she agreed. "You killed it." She was grateful for Patchfur's kind gesture in letting her eat next. The bite was still painful, and she needed to eat.

"Alright, then," Speckledclaw said, and began to seperate the rat's hind leg and a good portion of its torso. It was less than a third of the entire rat, because Speckledclaw had already eaten earlier and had mainly hunted to forget about her encounter with Grimykit.
She picked up her share in her mouth and moved aside so the other cats could access the meal. Noticing Blackfoot's bite, she commented idly, "You'd better wash that, just in case. It wouldn't be good fer you to get an infection."

Patchfur separated what was left of the rat in half, passing the larger half to Blackfoot. He ate ravenously, seeing as he hadn't tasted rat meat in ages. After listening to Speckledclaw's advice, he added, "That is, if we can find enough water. Washing it with your tongue won't do it any good."
