Spiderpaw's Campaign {The Experiment}

Patchfur was a little surprised at this, but he figured since he was the only one who wanted Bronzefoot as leader, he was probably the only one who wanted him as deputy. "What about you, Redstream? Are you interested in being deputy?" he asked, turning towards his second choice. "We'll probably still hold an election, but I want to know whether or not you're interested in the position."

[Thistle]

"Hey, hey! I can make a way betta' Clan than her," Dullpaw meowed, flicking his tail toward Spiderpaw. "How 'bout we do a 'nother election, huh? An' if you dun't, I'm quittin'!" The tom was quite close to be having a tantrum, which would be a little surprising for a tom his age. But honestly, he deserved it! He must get it!

Dingypaw rolled her eyes. "We voted fairly, and we decided on Spiderpaw," she meowed in a tone that would normally be used for young kits. "If you don't like it, you don't have to participate. I'm sure no one would miss you. I didn't want Spiderpaw to be leader, but you don't see me complaining. The election was fair and we aren't holding another one just because /you/ didn't get picked. Grow up and start acting your age!" she growled, lashing her tail angrily.

"WHERE IS SHE? Sick?" --- No, sorry; mother banned me from the computer for a week and I didn't get a chance to warn y'all.

Woodstripe nodded, pleased. "It seems the general consensus is another election."

"I d-don't want anoth-ther e-election!" Shortwhisker whimpered before turning to Redstream with big, begging eyes. She had better run in this one too.

The tabby bowed her head and didn't raise it until she had finished speaking. "Spiderpaw, since you are our temporary leader, I would like to know whom you would select as your deputy. I am sure we would all consider yours a valuable nomination."

Spiderpaw felt a little bit compelled to nominate Woodstripe. She had authority in this experiment without even running for leader, whether they liked it or not, and Spiderpaw kind of looked up to her. But Spiderpaw also liked Redstream, who also had quite a few supporters and seemed to be a good cat. She thought about it for a few more seconds, then meowed, "If Redstream is interested in the position of deputy, then I would like to nominate her for such a position."

No, I don't ship slash pairings unless there's evidence that both characters are gay.
Bic: "Hold on! So are we just going to let Spiderpaw choose without having an election first?" Granted, he knew that most people wanted Redstream for deputy anyways, but still. "I think the election should still happen. Besides, Shortwhisker, most cats are probably going to pick Redstream. The only reason we're hacing one is to make it fair and let everyone voice their opinons."

Redstream smiled at Spiderpaw. She wouldn't mind running for deputy, but personally she didn't want to get picked. "I accept your nomination, however in all honesty I don't feel I'm the right candidate for deputy. Is the deputy not supposed to be more focused on the hands-on side of running a clan and have reasonable experience in hunting? I'm afraid I'm not splendid at hunting, or fighting, for that matter," Redstream mewed in reply, nodding slightly at Shortwhisker. She did not like the tom, but she felt that a handful of cats were vouching for her to be deputy.

Speckledclaw decided that if she wanted to stand even an inkling of a chance of becoming deputy, she had better start gathering support now. "I'd like to say that I'm quite interested in becomin' deputy - in my opinion, a deputy should be fair in judgement and have reasonable experience in fighting (so as to be able to defend the clan) and hunting. They also ought to have adequate leadership skills, of course, so as to be able to lead cats into a hunt or battle." Speckledclaw took a fraction of a second to reminisce about the times she had hunted with her father.

Spiderpaw hurriedly meowed to Patchfur in an effort to qualm his outbursts, "I was merely supporting who I would prefer. If everyone else didn't want Redstream for deputy, then my nomination could be ignored." That over with, she thought a moment before turning to Redstream and Speckledclaw. Choosing her words carefully, she meowed, "Redstream, I understand your belief that you would not be suited for deputy, although personally I think you would be adequate." The black and brown she-cat cast a glance at Speckledclaw. She didn't know her very well, but she seemed alright thus far, and Spiderpaw gave her a smile. "Does anyone else wish to run for the position of deputy?" she called out to the rest of the cats participating in the Experiment.

"wonder what it'd be like if that actually happened." --- That's hard to imagine. Woodstripe's so... platonic.

"Now of course there will still be an election," the tabby concurred.

As much as Shortwhisker didn't like that, Redstream's acceptance had put him in a good mood, and he was grinning like an idiot. Some might even say that he was one.

"Physical skills are useful in any cat, no matter their position," Woodstripe continued, "and the deputy would not defend the Clan alone. Rather, he or she must have good leadership and strategic skills, in order to direct the Clan in times of both peace and war. Though any skill should be regarded as an additional advantage, fighting skills are not among the criteria for deputy. This position requires a cat to support the leader, organize hunting parties, and keep track of resources. He or she is subordinate to the leader, yet has the right to disagree with orders and present an alternative for the consideration of the Clan. Whoever takes this position must be someone who would neither become a mindless underling who offers no use of his or her own brain, nor an impulsive and irritable malcontent who abuses privileges and divides the Clan." Finishing her monologue, she wrapped her tail around her paws and studied the two candidates.
