"Um... not really," mumbled Batkit, laying his ears flat against his forehead as he started following them. Rats were numerous in the enclosure, but they were mostly strong, healthy adults that could give a nasty nip. Their meat was too tough anyway... Once, when he still lived with his mother, he had tasted rabbit. It was very small, not enough to feed everyone, but it had certainly been delicious. "D'you think we'll be able to find something like a rabbit or a mouse today if we can't find a rat?"

Speckledclaw nodded at all the cats and then promptly set off. She moved quickly and briskly, but maintained silence. Speedily, Speckledclaw located a rat that had wandered from the main crowd and sat down, claws unsheathed, ready to pounce.

"Ready?" she hissed at the remaining cats behind her.

Copperclaw gave a small nod to confirm what Speckledclaw had asked. His yellow eyes paid close attention to the rat, it was sniffing around like rats seemed to be doing most of the time. He waited reluctantly for Speckledclaw to make the first move, this was her hunt after all. He definitely didn't want to ruin it for the rest of the cats. Some other cricket-brain probably will though. He could already smell its ratty stench, in a time before cats may have found it disgusting, but to him it smelled delicious. He couldn't wait for the attack to begin.

"It's okay," Sandfur whispered to Batkit, "just do what I do." Then she began to circle around to the other side of the rat. She watched it carefully, wondering when it would notice the cats around it, then she looked back to make sure Batkit was following her.

Well, if rats can come in and out of the enclosure, rabbits probably can too... -shrug-

Batkit nodded and prowled after Sandfur, keeping his body low to the ground and paying attention to every step he took. He could smell the stink of their intended prey easily, so it was easy to locate. But he wouldn't attack... yet. Watch what Sandfur does, he thought, and so he kept his gaze on her.

Speckledclaw quickly glanced at the other cats, registering their positions, and then made a quick, powerful pounce. She skidded on her pounce, missing the rat by milimetres, which took off immediately, startled. Speckledclaw turned and followed suit.

"You!" She snapped at Sandfur, as the rat bolted towards her.

Copperclaw leaped into place behind Speckledclaw as she pounced. His paws scrabbled in the dirt as he took a position to the right of Speckledclaw. He felt like yelling when Speckledclaw missed the rat and it bolted away in the opposite direction of him. Staring on intensely as the rat ran towards Sandfur, he hoped she would react in time before it slipped away. The she-cat looked like she knew what she was doing, but even the most experienced hunter made mistakes.

Sandfur pounced on the rat, but she couldn't get a grip on it and barely managed to bite it's leg and flip it over. It couldn't run far with a wound like that, but, all the same, it ran towards Copperclaw's right side, out of Speckledclaw's reach. If he acted fast...

Copperclaw's yellow eyes followed the rat as it ran towards Sandfur. As she bit it, he had already relaxed, too soon because the rat then wriggled free, scrambling towards him. Int he split second he hesitated, it got past him, but he turned around quickly. In a few bounds, he caught up to the rat, normally he would never be able to, but its wound was preventing it from escaping. He quickly pounced on it, snapping its neck quickly. He straightened up sheepishly, embarrased that he had relaxed his guard too soon.
