"But what was different about the situation that kept her from forming that same opinion? At what point did her life branch off from the path that would have led her to be an adamant con as much as her mother?" --- Her mother was overly pushy. When she met other cats, she saw how they lived. They were allowed to form their own opinions, and she envied them. When she realized that she could have a different view than her mother, she learned about Clanners and that's when she chose that view. "Sounds good. If you want, you might talk about this as one of the changes she's undergone, and how she views her previous self." --- Okay...I think I might elaborate that on a later date, since it's not really necessary to add it in right now. "Right, but you made it sound like there was something rebellious about the way she treated other cats." --- I just edited that into the post (what I wrote previously)...does that clear it up, or should I try to explain more? "I guess I'm just not used to that term. Anyway, yeah, it became her coping strategy? That works." --- xD Maybe it's a term that people use more in my town than in other places. I've seen it a lot, so it's one of my go-to terms, so to speak.

It wasn't that she didn't trust them, more of that when they pushed her so hard to support the views of the Clanners, they actually drove her away. Rather than allowing her to develop her own views, they forced theirs upon her, which, paired with her stubborn will, caused her to want the complete opposite. Reverse psychology, so to speak. I suggest reading this thread before you proceed with this idea.

I read the thread...wow, our cats are similar! It's too bad Lichenfur is a con.
Anyways, I see the points made about stubborn parents, but I feel as though changing that would be changing a lot of Russetheart's character. I don't want to make Pebblestorm "evil", because she truly doesn't mean to be. She's just strong-willed. Perhaps she threatened Russetheart that she would never speak to her again if she became a Clanner? Pebblestorm wasn't being a bad parent--the thought just never even occurred to her that Russetheart would want something else.

"I don't want to make Pebblestorm 'evil', because she truly doesn't mean to be." -- Her mother doesn't have to be evil, silly goose.
"Perhaps she threatened Russetheart that she would never speak to her again if she became a con?" -- You mean became a Clanner? .../confused.
"Pebblestorm wasn't being a bad parent--the thought just never even occurred to her that Russetheart would want something else." -- Then she either wouldn't be making threats like those (or was that after the fact?) or she would do something like Lichenfur's mother and just not talk about it until she was older, and by then it's too late.

Just testing a character table that I tried to make. xD Ignore it. "Her mother doesn't have to be evil, silly goose." --- Well, in the other thread you made it sound like all parents were pushy in their views, so unless she was something more (aka evil), she was really just an average parent. I mean, that's how I understood it. xD "You mean became a Clanner? .../confused." --- Pfft...that's totally what I said.. /goes to change post "Then she either wouldn't be making threats like those (or was that after the fact?) or she would do something like Lichenfur's mother and just not talk about it until she was older, and by then it's too late." --- Maybe she did see something different in her daughter, which lead her to believe Russetheart would want to become a Clanner, and that's why she made the threats. Very colorful!
"Maybe she did see something different in her daughter, which lead her to believe Russetheart would want to become a Clanner," -- Alright, let's start there then. What was special about her?

"Very colorful!" --- Thanks! :3
"Alright, let's start there then. What was special about her?" --- Pebblestorm was beginning to notice that Russetheart was spending less time with her parents and more time with the Clanner families, something that Pebblestorm disliked immensely. Pebblestorm became even more frustrated when she noticed how unhappy Russetheart seemed while with her family. One day, Pebblestorm was so furious that she threatened Russetheart by saying that if she ever dared become a Clanner, she would never speak to her again.

The chronology is confusing me here. She became a Clanner because... her mom pressured her... and threatened to never speak to her if she became a Clanner... which her mother did because she was hanging out with Clanners so often... which she did because she felt more comfortable with Clanners than with her family... because her mom pressured her.
...and you've lost me.

Her mother saw this, and that's when she threatened her. Russetheart became even more unhappier, and made the decision to become a Clanner, although she was now too scared to tell her parents.
