"What I find impossible about your scenario is the elimination of the sociological gravitation toward representation and class structure. Please do not use hyperbole; following a leader does not prohibit thought nor free will.
"However, I do understand your concerns over the acquisition of power, and I do not support a share of the old Clan traditions, such as the leader's nomination of deputy. As for why I would start this experiment, it is clear I aim to further the reformation of the Clan--the led Clan, the Clan in which I believe.
"You have not forced anything, Patchfur. We made an agreement with one another and I respected it." She gave him a pointed look.
"In addition, I am flattered that you think me popular. I take it that whomever all thought perfect for the position, you would disagree.
"Now Patchfur, I remind you of my concerns. Do you intend to participate in this experiment, entailing submission to temporary authority, or do you not?"
Leaving him to consider that, she faced Dottedfoot. "So you are one of us now. Welcome to our fold. Forgive me for asking this of you, but if you do not mind, would you please check up on Shortwhisker? I do not mean to seem intrusive, but it has me concerned that a cat of his character would take this long in returning to what he perceives as his Clan. He is, as you know, attracted to trouble in the way blood is attracted to the ground."

"It may not prohibit them completely, but if you are following orders, you have less thought and free will than a cat who goes by their own laws. Why must there be a class structure? Why can't all cats be equal. Someone like Dottedfoot, for example, would have no power in a traditional Clan because of her disability and age. However, in my Clan everyone would have a vote and everyone's vote would be just as powerful as everyone else's. I don't understand how a leader is better than that."
"I am glad that you don't agree with that tradition, but what will you do instead? If you have cats vote for their leader, why not let them vote on everything to make it equal? I will submit to authority for however long as I am forced to."

"Patchfur, were it a choice between your ideal Clan and no Clan at all, I would join yours in a heartbeat," Woodstripe assented.
In his Clan, she did not expect she would have any trouble garnering respect with a reputation for wisdom, eloquence, and sound judgment until it became routine for Clanmates to come to her for advice, then guidance, then orders.
"Seeing as no one is forcing you to do anything, you are not putting my mind at ease. Answer me this: will you follow a temporary leader and deputy or will you not?"

Patchfur sighed. "Yes, yes I will. Until the ten days are over." He looked over at Dottedfoot, who he had forgotten in the argument with Woodstripe. "I urge you to consider my version of a Clan. When you decide what you believe, I am certain you will pick the right side." he meowed calmly.
