After you've typed up your character's bio using the form, post it here in this board. Then the process commences. If after reading this you still don't understand, or you have something to say about the process, please make use of the questions board.
Perhaps you're accustomed to a forum that accepts all bios no matter what, or perhaps you're accustomed to a forum that declares a character "rejected" if it has too many things wrong with it. Starless is like neither of these.
You know the sayings: we're all human; we all make mistakes - plus Starless has an unusual plot and setting that take time to get used to. With these factors combined, you know you won't get everything right at first. So, we have the process.
It shouldn't take long for your character's thread to get a reply. Although all scribes can post on unaccepted characters, I'll be the one you see most often. In my posts, I will inform you of any mistakes I've found, maybe give you some tips or advice, and ask questions based on the information in the bio. Questions don't always mean you made a mistake, but they do tend to mean you should change or add something. I ask questions whenever something doesn't make sense, when something is unclear, when you've left something out, and sometimes when I'm just curious.
Once I've posted, it's up to you to do two things. First - click "modify" on your first post and edit, change, rephrase, remove, and/or add whatever you need to in the bio as appropriate.
Then you should post a reply to the the thread, in which you answer questions and respond to whatever else you'd like to respond to. Please use quotes to indicate which specific thing you're answering in each part of your post - otherwise it gets confusing. Posting on your character thread bumps it to the top of the board and lets everyone know that you've read the replies. Replying continues until we've addressed all the mistakes and dubious material.
It's not just a chore list, though. The admissions process is a dialogue, a conversation, a writer's conference. Talk about your character to get a better idea of who he or she is as you develop a set of views and history. Find what works and what doesn't; figure things out by discussing them.
You may be thinking, "This is silly. I can edit the bio myself before I even post it here." That's an excellent idea and should make the process much shorter.
You may be thinking that this is way too complicated, but we're here to help you. All we ask of you is to take enough pride in your work to want to improve it.
You may be thinking there's no way you can do this. We encourage you to try. If you're sure you don't want to, feel free to hang out at the OOC boards all you like. Even if you don't want to role play with us, you can still talk to us on the Local Mews.
