"I'm, uh, Batkit," said the tom, his tail twitching uneasily, still wondering why she, a stranger, was being nice to him. He felt wary as he looked into her gleaming eyes. After his parents' death and his sister's departure, he wasn't sure whom to trust. But she seemed kind enough, and it would be nice to have someone to talk to for once.

"Pleasure to be acquainted with you, Batkit," she mewed, dipping her head. "I am planning to conduct an experiment on the effectiveness of authority, but I require volunteers. What are your views on Clan reformation?"

"A Clan?" The young cat paused, obviously deep in thought.
What did acquainted mean? He opened his mouth to ask, but soon decided against it. Best not to show ignorance, he thought, Or she might think that I'm a cricketbrain.
So he just replied, "It'd be n-nice to have one. Then life would probably be more better around here." After he finished, he looked down on his paws, wondering if he had said the right thing.

Woodstripe smiled. "Excellent; we are of like mind. Now, mayhap you would be willing to participate in my experiment? It involves testing the Clan lifestyle directly, with both a fresh-kill pile and a leader."

"A fresh-kill pile?" Spiderpaw meowed from nearby. She had been listening for a little bit and was interested, but still a little cautious-she admired Woodstripe, but was a bit wary of what hints of ambition she had caught from her. "And a leader. I like the sound of that, but who would be the leader?"

Once again, another shocking moment in which Woodstripe didn't have an immediate answer. She glanced at her paws, thinking. However, this did not last long. "Well, upon reflection... I think it would be best for the group of volunteers to select one together. What do you think, Spiderpaw?"

Spiderpaw nodded. "I think all the volunteers should vote," she meowed. 'Good enough for me,' she thought to herself. "I'd be happy to participate." Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Batkit. 'He seems quite young,' she thought to herself. 'But he supports a Clan. That's good.'

"My deepest thanks," Woodstripe meowed with another dip of her head. "I suggest you begin considering what sort of cat you'd like to vote for. What are your thoughts, Batkit?"

Batkit hesitated, not sure if he should discuss his opinions to another cat, whom he had never met before. "I think that too," he mewed, nodding toward another she-cat, who he thought was called Spiderpaw.
"And I'd join in too," he added.
