If you don't want to read through a wall of text all about Darky, you should probably turn away or skip to the last paragraph.
Weeeeeeeell, here goes.
So. Darky is a budding artist, has pretty good english andlooks Korean aspires to get into an art school.
So one year ago, she asked her teachers about information on art schools in September. AND THAT'S WHEN SHE FOUND OUT ABOUT SOTA.
SOTA, short for School of the Arts (Singapore), is a gorgeous art school that runs under MICA (Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts) instead of the standard - and boring - old MOE (Ministry of Education). Darky seriously wants to go there, for several reasons:
- a fresh start
I've had a good deal of awkwardness and teasing from the students in my primary school (1st Grade - 6th Grade), that have followed me into my secondary school (7th Grade - 10th/11th Grade) and have coerced a few of my new classmates into their teasing. I've gotten over it, but it gets annoying and does harm to my social reputation. I've also become much more keen on social activities, but this batch of people I'm around aren't too mature and I'm not too popular around them, resulting in me being pushed to the back, infuriated and burning with locked-up inspiration.
- my passion
For the arts. Since I started writing and drawing, I've steadily developed a passion for literature, visual arts (including filmography, dance, animation and of course digital arts) and, more recently, theatre. The years I've spent unable to release my full potential have turned into a drive for me to get into SOTA and do something about my situation.
- better company
This conclusion has been made by a very hopeful Darky as well as real-life experience. Now, the students who go to SOTA have to have a high education standard to be accepted. Most of these students tend to be more mature, as is the case in my current school (only people I feel comfortable and happy talking to), and a school full of them - people who can get my jokes, feel comfortable with good english and are reasonably good-mannered - is just a dream come true. It's my opinion and hope, but good friends do nothing but help you out and spending time in their company ought to help boost my study habits.
So, one of the things interesting about SOTA is that you don't get in by only submitting an application - you have to go to the TA (Talent Academy) they have and get in by competitive audition. So, I'm aiming to apply for their Visual Arts and Theatre courses - I've learned I can apply for both. However, I need some advice. For starters, do any of you guys know any nifty tricks when displaying an art portfolio? And do any of you with previous experience with theatre/acting know the proper way to rehearse scripts?
Any kind of advice is greatly appreciated. <3 I really, really, really want to get into SOTA.
