Speckledclaw turned to Barkpaw. "At this point, you votin' wouldn't really be very valid 'cause our deputy's already pretty much decided. I'm fine if you want to join the Experiment, though," she snapped a little half-heartedly, after a long period of silence from her.
Redstream nodded at Speckledclaw's statement. "Now, regarding the topic of Spiderpaw's warrior name - well, I feel it might be a bit awkward for her to rename herself. Perhaps it should be up to the deputy to assign a new name to the leader - the deputy is, after all, the closest thing to a leader in the Clan. I will not proceed unless I have Spiderpaw's permission, however," she said, turning to look at Spiderpaw.

"You have my permission," Spiderpaw meowed, trying to hide her excitement at getting her warrior name. It was a bit odd; the deputy of this "Clan" was giving the leader her new name. "Select whatever warrior name you think would be best for me."

Woodstripe could handle defeat, but she wasn't sure how long she could tolerate the joyous, gloating glow in Shortwhisker's eyes. "You're right, Patchfur. A fresh-kill pile is important to establish. Once Redstream completes the ceremony, we can send out a hunting party." She glanced over the group, pretending to be picking from among them. "Shortwhisker, perhaps?"
He snapped out of his victorious stupor and stared at her. "...A-alone?"
"Of course you wouldn't be alone," she assured him after a split-second of hesitation. "How silly you are at times, Shortwhisker."
"L-leave m-me a-alone! Sheesh!"

"Okay," Redstream replied, beaming. It felt odd to be granting someone a name, but the sight of thrill on Spiderpaw's face was uplifting. Now, to decide on a new name ... Redstream ran her mind over common suffixes. Stripe came to mind, along with nose, claw, stream .... and foot. Redstream paused to examine Spiderpaw. She didn't know her very well, but she didn't seem like the curious type, so she could exclude 'nose'. And 'claw' ... that was for good hunters, wasn't it? It might be a bit of a stretch. Spiderpaw didn't seem to have the fitting physique of a good hunter.
Redstream spent a little longer than Spiderpaw did with Battail when deciding on his new name. At last, she came to a conclusion. "Spiderpaw, do you like the sound of Spiderstripe?"
Speckledclaw perked up considerably at Woodstripe's mention of a hunting party. This was her element. "I'd be glad to go hunting," she announced.

Patchfur was both intrigued and exasperated. While he wanted to hunt for the Clan, there was absolutely no way he could cooperate with Shortwhisker. He was glad Spiderpaw was getting her Warrior name though- after learning more about her, he decided that she deserved it. "Would we be hunting rats or small prey?" Patchfur asked. If they were hunting small prey, he could work alongside Shortwhisker without actually working with him.

Barkpaw nodded. Redstream seemed to be the most popular choice for deputy, and that fact alone handed her the position. This made her even more appealing for a mate now - if she were his, he would have some sort of power or authority at least, being the deputy's mate.
His stomach emitted a small gurgle at the mention of a hunting party. Even if it meant leaving Redstream, he was sure she would be impressed when he brought her a nice, juicy lizard or a meaty piece of rat. "If you don't mind," he began, addressing Woodstripe, "could I, perhaps, be a part of this hunt?"

While Barkpaw was a little too flirtatious, if he was separated from the she-cat, he might actually turn out to be nice. He was smart enough to get along well with others and didn't seem like the type of cat who enjoyed conflict. "I'll go on a hunting party with Barkpaw. With a few more cats, we'd be able to catch a rat." He scanned the crowd for other volunteers, hoping that they wouldn't include Shortwhisker.

Speckledclaw was glad that a hunting party was quickly being organised. She hadn't thought she would get the chance to hunt so early on in the Experiment.
Orangestorm decided that everything had more or less been sorted out now. He definitely wasn't going to join the hunting party - that was something Clanners did, and he was still a Con at heart. Orangestorm decided to wait for the right opportunity to leave unnoticed.

Spiderpaw grinned at Redstream's suggestion. "It sounds great," she meowed. Spiderstripe.. I like the sound of that, she thought. The Experiment was proceeding grandly, and Spiderpaw was ecstatic. She was leader, she was surrounded by fellow Clanners who she trusted well, and she was about to receive her warrior name. This was more than she could have ever hoped for a single season before.

DIngypaw didn't volunteer for the hunting party. She knew she would be useless on a hunt. It might be possible for her to get some of the food though. Perhaps while Spiderpaw and Redstream were busy with giving the black she-cat her warrior name she could sort it out. "All those who want to hunt, go over there!" she yelled, flicking her tail to the left.
