"Yeah, an' Rockpelt makes ya sound like a kitty with fur made outta rocks." Dullpaw snorted. "An' who says that I'll have a Clan? There lots of cats that need a leada' like meh, ya know. Smart cats that know a good leada' when they see one. Not like y'all ova' 'ere."

Patchfur nodded, glad to drop the subject. "Yeah, a discussion would be a good thing. That way the leader and new warrior could work it out together so that the warrior's name would make sense." He was glad to finally be cooperating with Rockpelt. He already had plenty of enemies, and didn't need any more, which was why he chose not to reply to Dullpaw's comment about Rockpelt's name.
Dingypaw snorted with laughter at Dullpaw's comment, but she saw an opportunity. She widened her eyes and look directly at Dullpaw, fighting the urge to laugh. "You know what, Dullpaw? That is an excellent idea. There are many cats that need leaders, not just us. Do you know who needs a good, smart leader like you? Those cats way over there," she meowed seriously, flicking her ragged gray tail over at the distant cats. "They need you, Dullpaw. Go over there and help them."

Dullpaw peered over the elder's shoulder. Of course, there were too many to know which cats she was talking about, but who cared? "O' course! They need meh help! They need meh Clan!" With that, he raced off as fast as his stocky frame could go, waving his tail.

Rockpelt snorted with amusement. "Maybe now we can get somewhere," he mewed. "Any good ideas yet, Spiderpaw?"

"I've been thinking," Spiderpaw meowed coolly. "There are many possibilities for Batkit's name. I was thinking maybe Batnose, since he seems curious - at least to me. But there are other choices; Batfur, Batfoot, Battail.." She smiled at the cats around her, especially Batkit. "What do you all think?"

"Well, it depends," meowed Dingypaw, as she didn't know Batkit very well. "What are his skills? You could always go with Batfur, but if he's a good fighter or hunter or he has a specific personality trait, you could name him after that. I don't know Batkit very well, so I don't know what name you should choose."
"Does Batkit have any suggestions?" Patchfur meowed, looking over at the soon-to-be warrior. "He knows himself better than any of us do. He probably already has a few ideas."

Batkit didn't have any suggestions, because the name he liked the sound of had already been said. "Bat-tail! Can my name be Bat-tail please?"

"Battail," Spiderpaw echoed. "If that is what you wish, then that shall be your warrior name." She paused for a moment, trying to think of some appropriate speech for his naming, but she couldn't come up with much. Still, she cleared her throat and meowed in what she hoped was a regal manner, "I, Spiderpaw, leader of this Experiment, give you your new name. Batkit, may you now be known as Battail, and may you live a long and happy life here."

Patchfur was glad that things had worked out so well. He'd expected some stupid retort from Dullpaw, and then- but Dullpaw wasn't here! This fact alone was enough to make him grin, though after he had realized that now Dullpaw would no longer interfere with anything, he felt like he could jump to the top of the enclosure. "So, what's next? I think we should make some sort of rules."

"Congratulations, Bat-tail," Woodstripe purred. Although pleased that her statements had resulted in action from others, she wanted to steer the conversation back on course. "A body of law, though looser than the old 'warrior code', is a superb idea. We need to define our limits and protect our rights. My recommendation is that we not allow any cat to eat until all kits and elders have had their share. What do my fellow candidates have to say?"
