[posting] You know the old standards: use "ooc" for speaking out of character, don't make your character perfect and all-powerful, don't control other people's characters, and give everyone a chance to dodge any attacks. The role play on Starless is in past-tense, third person, narration format (the way most books are written). Out of common courtesy, please don't use font colors that are hard to read. Scribes may not role play a character whose bio is not in the Accepted Characters board.
[activity] While we'd love to see as much of you as we can, we understand that you have other priorities. Scribes should post threads in the absences board if they know they won't be on for a while. If a scribe doesn't log in for a month, and hasn't made an absence thread, he or she will no longer have an account.
[profanity] The cats of Starless do not use any of our modern, conventional cuss words. The terminology thread includes a few insults and crude phrases specific to their culture, and anyone is welcome to suggest more, but keep role play posts free of actual profanity.
[violence] In this unrestrained, discordant society, fights are inevitable. Cats draw blood from their prey and their enemies. Scribes may go into as much or as little detail as they wish regarding gore, but they should make sure to understand feline fighting and hunting techniques and write with clarity.
[reproduction] Posts must skip over the actual scenes of conceiving and birthing kits. However, making kits is not restricted to devoted mates, and cats may make (undetailed) mention of "mating" or "making kits" (in such terms only).
[conventions] Scribes must know how to capitalize, punctuate, spell (there's a spell check button for those of you for whom it's a weak point), use correct grammar, and so on and so forth. Occasional mistakes are forgivable, but do make an effort.
[quantity] Each role play post must have a minimum of three good sentences. This is to allow quick blows and snappy dialogue - after all, some scenes require short interchanges. That is not to say scribes shouldn't try for longer posts. If you can add more and keep it interesting, please do so.
[quality] No one wants to read a post filled with nothing but a character sitting, thinking, watching, and getting described. That's why, although length and description are great, content should be scribes' central focus. Strive for interesting, interactive posts that cause conflict. Each time you start a fight, debate, battle, or dramatic scene, another scribe can nominate you for a point. You rise in level by amassing certain amounts of points.
