Hello my friendly friends! This is a board where nothing serious takes place. Actually that's a lie. Serious things DO take place, but they are pointless serious things. For example, I might talk about swimming, get distracted and talk about Avatar, start talking about the other Avatar, switch to Temeraire because I just finish book 3, Black Powder War- you get the picture. This is basically all the stuff I can't fit in the chatbox because it'd take up way more than five lines.
Of course, other people are welcome to post here as well to talk about completely random topics with me. If you don't know what I'm talking about at the time, look it up and become smarter! Or you can just ask and I can tell you base information about the topic. But the first one is easier for me, since explaining things is not my strong point.
Well, anyways, there's nothing else to say in the first post. Oh yeah, the rules! 1. No profanity (crap doesn't count) 2. Please don't get angry at each other because one hates something, the other loves it, etc. 3. Have fun and don't make rule lists if they're as short as this one!
Let the quacking commence!

You read Black Powder War? Cool. I wasn't patient enough to finish it, :C. I will someday. I've read the other two books and loved them.

OMG FOR REAL?
SPOILER ALERT
Okay, let's talk about Temeraire. When I first started the series, I was really irked. I thought Temeraire was a Gary-Stu because he was so ridiculously powerful compared to the other British dragons. He was really fast and incredibly agile for his size, was the only type of dragon that could hover, was a more intelligent dragon than the- picking up many languages even after other dragons would've had as much difficulty with it as a human, and he had the divine wind. During the entire first book he did not get injured except for during the rescue mission, which made me mad because it made me feel like the author was trying to make the injured dragon look bad- OMG he injured another dragon on the same side and plus he had to be rescued how LAME. Also, in His Majesty's Dragon his friends got injured about 5 bajillion times each which was very annoying considering how Temeraire got injured 0 times.
But I think it got a lot better starting with Throne of Jade. In ToJ he was injured so badly that he couldn't fly and it made him a much more likable character since it made him way more realistic. In a WAR people and dragons are going to get INJURED. When he went to China, there were other Celestials and it made him seem less stu-ish still because even though they said in HMJ that Celestials were a rare breed of dragon, Temeraire's interactions with the other Celestials made it more clear. Temeraire seemed much more normal surrounded by dragons that were rare, powerful breeds like him.
But the main evidence that he was most definitely not a sue was in Black Powder War. Every time they fought, since Temeraire was usually the only dragon, they got pwned. Destroyed. Annihilate. They lost pretty much every battle. Also, he proved in China that he was very stubborn and frank, which was a problem when he tried to talk to normal people who weren't accustomed to dragons.
Actually, as BPW progressed, I found myself hating Lien even though I wanted to feel pity for her. While I understand that her life in China had been suckish and without Yongxing it was terrible, I was just so attached to Temeraire and Laurence that I wanted to see them succeed. Normally I don't care about the main characters that much, and choose a side character to support, but in Temeraire, I loved both of them. The third book was the polar opposite of the first book- they lost every battle, Temeraire was constantly injured and exhausted, and I was rooting for him rather than against him. Despite the fact that he won too much in book one, I was sad when he lost so often in book 3, when normally I would be glad for the balance. That's how attached I was to them.
My favorite character was, hands down, Iskierka. She was absolutely adorable and lovable the moment she hatched. I love how reckless and bloodthirsty she is despite the fact that she probably weighs less than my dog. Little guys who act tough end up being really cute and lovable. Or children who enjoy killing things, in a weird, twisted way. Iskierka fits the bill on both, and she's kinda like child Azula without the twisted-evil ness- she's just a battle-minded species of dragon.
I cannot wait to read the fourth one!

Her voice does. Or it just reminded me of her. No idea why. So do quacks really echo? I'm serious. I want to know now. Anyway, saw this guy on the news this morning and it made me laugh. Now I want this shirt.

Ahh that is a really funny shirt.
Guess what I did last night? Watched Avatar with my mom! (She hadn't seen it yet) And it was just as good as the first time. While watching the movie, I wasn't even focused on the plot because the animation and the world that was created was just so engrossing. I felt like I was actually there, especially during the flight scenes. Every creature that they created moved in such a natural way that you expected one to jump out at you the second you left the theater. My favorite part was when the main character is flying on his dragon and you see the mountains above and the ground below. I felt like I was flying too. The use of subtle 3-D effects was excellent, none of that cheesy Im-reachin'-for-you crap. They animated, for example, just one fern in 3-D when a ship is landing and it made me feel like I was actually standing in the clearing.
The Na'vi people were really amazing. Their movements appeared so natural and real, and the animation corresponded perfectly with the voice. The emotion that was shown on their faces was just incredible seeing as they're just animated blue kittehs. I felt actual sympathy for them, and sadness, and happiness, etc. The fact that an ANIMATED CREATURE can cause us to feel emotional is just amazing. I don't know how they did it, but it was beautiful.
The world itself was gorgeous too. All the creatures they had created were adapted to their world and every plant was so interesting and beautiful. It was like a coral reef without the water. Everything glowed, and there were those lizards that spun around shinily when you hit them- it was awesome. The giant cats in particular, when the chase scene was going on, it moved through the jungle the way a tiger or leopard might, and it felt so real.
So yeah, I liked it. A lot. Pretty colors. Shiny things. Awesome animation. Explosions.

"Watched Avatar with my mom!" -- So disappointed. I thought you meant The Last Airbender.
"The fact that an ANIMATED CREATURE can cause us to feel emotional is just amazing." -- I've been feeling emotion for animated creatures since I first watched Looney Toons. It doesn't correlate to the realism of the animation.
"there were those lizards that spun around shinily when you hit them" -- Huh?
"Off topic, my church's pasta supper was EPICLY EPIC." -- mm, pasta.

I don't know I just felt like they were real. I don't think of, say, Zuko as a real person, but in Avatar I felt that way. Haha, my mom wouldn't watch ATLA. Both her and my dad aren't fans of cartoon things. (except family guy and south park- my dad has an obsession with them) I don't mind if you don't like Avatar the movie. But I'm gonna talk about it, so OMG!!!!! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! Watching a show with my dad and I saw ads for SOLITARY 4.0!!! AHHHHHHHH! I loved season 2 and 3 (number one had strangevoice!Val) and I absolutely cannot wait! *squees and seizures on the ground* God I love that show!!!!
