Just a few. I want to make sure I'm clear on everything before joining.
Can someone please explain to me exactly what a notebook should be, and what information needs to go on it?
Also, this is not a Clan. Are cats required to have Clan names?
We're not allowed to have tabbies (classic and spotted, anyhow) until we purchase them? Why make such common fur patterns purchase-only? Patched I understand, as it's rare, but wouldn't it make more sense for tortie coats and van patterns to be purchase-only?
Does Insane imply that the cat is literally, well, insane? Or that one simply behaves in a crazed manner?

Welcome to Starless, Shadeheart. Thanks for the questions. ;D
A notebook is just a thread with links to your accepted characters' bios and whatever other notes you want. Most scribes have notes about their characters' current actions, relationships, status, and so on, and some write up some information about themselves or have links to other sites they like. Other than the bio links, it's up to you what goes in there (provided, of course, it's nothing obscene or any of that, but you can guess as much). You can check out the notebooks board yourself if you'd like some examples.
Yes, this is not a Clan, but these cats are all descended from Clan cats, so the only style of names they know of is that of Clan names. I'm not barring single-word names from use, but you've got to come up with a good reason to use one, and so far no one has.
Mackerel and ticked tabbies, the most common types of tabby, are free. Classic and spotted, as I understand it, are not impossible in ferals but not as common. Torties do not require purchase as I've never thought of them as rare, and van pattern... doesn't that just mean a big, white marking covering all but ears and tail?
Are you asking if the insane cats have an actual disorder of the brain or just behave in a crazy way as some sort of ruse? No, in the Stats board I only count a cat as insane if it really is insane. I haven't come across any that just pretend to be insane and I'm not sure why any cat would do so.
How do those answers suit you?

Thank you for the explanation, it really clears things up. :3

Makes sense. Kind of like an American naming their kid in a language they've never heard of.

Yeah, that's a van pattern. It's fairly rare, though.
All right. It just seems that almost all of the strays in my area have a classic tabby pattern. And we have quite a large number of ferals around; before they cut down our woods, I'd have estimated up to thirty. Some have starved to death without all the small animals around, but the number is still pretty high, and most are classic. But it could be that the gene pool was started by one or two classic tabbies so the rate is high here.

Hah, not pretend. xD I mean, are all "insane" cats quite literally insane? Or does any extremely off-beat or particularly murderous cat apply?
Thank you for the answers, they're mostly quite satisfying. :)

"It's fairly rare, though." -- Is it? hm. Where'd you read that?
"It just seems that almost all of the strays in my area have a classic tabby pattern." -- I didn't realize it was so common. However, understand that making it a purchase-only pattern doesn't mean they're not allowed -- it means they're a reward for whoever earns that many LTs.
"Or does any extremely off-beat or particularly murderous cat apply?" -- Wanting to kill someone isn't insanity. It's wanting to kill someone. Don't confuse evil desires and insane desires, even if they may sometimes merge. As for off-beat, I don't know what you mean. Everyone has their little quirks.
Anyway, yes, the insane cats are insane.
