Under Spiderstripe's Command

Barkpaw twitched his nose at Shortwhisker's display. What was he doing? Speckledclaw had apologized to him, yet he felt as though he should show submission. What a weird tom.

Seeing that Patchfur had started to eat, Barkpaw turned his attention to the rat, and ripped off a good chunk of meat. A portion of it he consumed, savoring the delicious taste, and the rest he intended to share with Redstream and Blackfoot. They would both be proud of his generosity - or so he hoped.

Speckledclaw was satisfied that Shortwhisker had already started washing the wound, but it would need further cleaning. They would find a puddle later.

"Go get your share," she prompted him, walking over to the rat herself and taking a small bite. The rat had been rather big and its flesh was quite plentiful. Feeling tasty meat in her mouth helped to evaporate her earlier irritation, and she was able to finally relax - as she should - after a hunt.

"So, what do we do now?" Patchfur asked, wiping his bloodied muzzle with his paw. He didn't want to go back to Woodstripe, but they had to bring the remainder of the rat to the rest of the cats participating in the Experiment. After all, just because they hadn't been in the hunting party didn't mean they should starve. Hopefully, Woodstripe would give Shortwhisker some menial task to do and Patchfur could have some time to himself, unless Spiderstripe wanted to order him around some more, in which case he would either grudginly do his duty or say no, depending on what it was. "Are we taking this back to the others?"

"Y-Yes, y-yes, we h-hunt for th-the, the Clan. I-I've got to t-take this b-back to R-Redst-stream," Shortwhisker panted. He took the rat's neck in his teeth and tried to carry it forward. Tired and short of stature, the tom did little more than drag it in the dust.

Barkpaw jolted upright when he heard Shortwhisker's remark. He would be the one to take some meat to Redstream, not that stuttering fool! He grabbed the two pieces he had saved, hurried over to Spiderstripe, and asked in a rush, "Excuse me, but may I return to the others? I have some meat that I'd like to deliver." He only hoped that his temporary leader would let him go before Shortwhisker could return.

xDDDD I don't know why, but I giggled when I saw this. I hope he does something for Redstream to actually consider not outright rejecting him.

Speckledclaw was rather amused at the way Barkpaw seemed to jostle for the chance to be the one to bring the meat back to the 'Clan'. She had expected it of Shortwhisker, but she had known virtually nothing about Barkpaw up until this point. She hoped Barkpaw wasn't another Shortwhisker - granted, very few cats in the enclosure could match up to the sheer intensity with which Shortwhisker was ... well, Shortwhisker - but there were still milder incarnates of that queer tom and she hastened to avoid them when she could.

"Les' jus' get that meat back to the rest of the Clan, shall we? And 'urry up with it too, 'cause that wound of yers," and she looked pointedly at Shortwhisker, "needs a proper washin'."

Personally, Patchfur wouldn't have minded if Shortwhisker died of infection.Tthat useless tom was a burden on everyone he met! He couldn't do anything by himself, not even wash a wound. Being around him for so long was making Patchfur's head ache and his temper flare. "I have to agree with Speckledclaw," he meowed, for once too exhausted to agrue, so he didn't point out that he didn't agree with getting Shortwhisker's wound cleaned. "Let's just take it back to the rest of the Clan." Staring pointedly at Shortwhisker he added, "And just because Redstream's deputy, it doesn't mean she'll get more than her fair share. In fact, I think the elders and kits should be the first to eat. They're the ones who need it the most." This sounded both fair and sensible to the tom, and it was pretty hard to argue with. Hopefully the rest of the cats would eventually see the logic in removing the leader from the Clan and governing themselves.

"Shortwhisker was ... well, Shortwhisker" -- I feel as though I've characterized a cat well when all you can say is this.

What do y'all say to starting a new thread as a combination of this one and "Is It Bad I'd Like to Live Again" ...? The hunting party could meet up with Redstream and the others as well as the little group consisting of Dottedfoot, Dingypaw, Littlestorm, and Woodstripe.

I have to agree. Same goes for Grimykit and Woodstripe, really. =w=

I think a new thread would be great. =D The hunt's already over anyway, and I need an excuse to drag Redstream into a roleplay somewhere. Also, I've been meaning to ask if the Clan had a territory - it seems really bothersome to have to look for all the Clan cats whenever they want to share a meal or have a gathering.
