Sandfur walked around her territory, looking for prey or intruders. Her senses were alert and focused as she searched the sand and rocks in front of her with piercing yellow eyes and pricked ears.
There! In front of her she could see a lizard creeping out of a hole in the rocks. It was headed for a small puddle, which was hardly big enough to quench a cricket's thirst. Dropping into a hunter's crouch, she circled around between it and the rocks, cutting off it's escape. The agile she-cat began to advance, then leaped, claws extended, at the lizard. The last thing it saw was a flash of striped tabby fur.
She carried it in her mouth over to a small fresh-kill pile that she kept for herself, Bluekit, and any starving cats she took pity on, then selected a cricket and began to eat, still watchful for intruders.

Grimykit did not understand (or rather did not care about) the concept of a fresh-kill pile. When Sandfur dropped the lizard, in his mind, this meant that she was abandoning a fine piece of meat and leaving it for anyone to take, and he was anyone. The tall tabby strode into her territory without so much as a greeting or glance in her direction and proceeded to take her most recent kill for himself.

Sandfur could be a kind and generous cat, but this piece of rat droppings didn't merit her respect. "Hey!" she yelled, jumping up and abandoning the half-eaten cricket. "Get your own prey, that's my fresh-kill pile! And GET YOUR PELT OFF MY TERRITORY!!!

Grimykit rolled his eyes and dropped the lizard to speak but put a protective paw on it. "It ain't yers if ya ditch it. An' 'sides, this ain't yer territory. She-cats can't have their own territories, duh."

Sandfur was starting to get really annoyed by this worthless excuse for a cat. "It's my prey because it was on my fresh-kill pile. And any cat can hold territory as long as they can defend it..." she paused to flex her claws, and then continued: "...which I can. Besides, I share my territory with Bluekit."

Bronzefoot was lazily laying nearby, and his mouth curved downwards as he heard the conversation. "I think that it's stupid for a cat to sit on a piece of dirt and say that it's his-or her-territory. The cat will die and who's gonna 'own' it then? Nobody! Or someone else who that cat never even knew. And many cats have probably 'owned' it before you did. Any one piece of land doesn't belong to one cat." After a moment, he added, "But if the concept of territory did make sense, it would apply to both she-cats and toms."
He began to smirk, hearing Sandfur's reply. "It's my prey because it was on my fresh-kill pile," he mimicked. "If you wanted to eat that prey, why didn't you? That dirtface doesn't deserve any prey," he meowed, referring to Grimykit, "but you tossed it aside."

"I tossed it aside for Bluekit," Sandfur said slowly through her teeth. She was really getting annoyed by this collection of stupid toms. "And many cats have held this territory before me. They were all my ancestors."

Bronzefoot rolled his eyes. "Hey, not looking for a fight. I would argue more, but I don't like appearing to be on his side." His eyes flicked to Grimykit and back. "So, what's your name? And who's this Bluekit, your kit?"

"I'm her littermate," Bluekit meowed, walking in on the conversation. He surveyed the two toms with his one good eye. "What's going on here?" he asked Sandfur.
"This cat is trying to steal my prey," she meowed, gesturing to Grimykit, "and this other tom isn't helping anything."
OOC>> Wouldn't Bronzefoot say kit?

"Hey, hey," Bronzefoot meowed. "All I said was that I think the concepts of fresh-kill piles and territory were stupid. Sure, I may not be helping you, but you don't seem to be paying attention to the one who actually 'stole your prey,' as you put it." He yawned and lazily glanced at Grimykit.
