Rainstripe agreed with what Beetlepaw was saying. She had always assumed that she'd be hungrier if a Clan were to form, but she'd never realized that she might be kicked out of her home. "Like Beetlepaw said, it's a choice. And it doesn't seem like a very fair arrangement to me. The Clanners get everything they want as long as they do exactly what the leader says, and us Cons get what's left simply because we have a different opinion. Besides, it sounds like the leader just tells all the cats what to do. You say you're smart, but you obviously not smart enough to make your own decisions which is why you need a leader to make them for you!"

"Y-yes we are s-sup-pposed to live in a-a Clan," the tom sputtered, getting more worked up. "All of y-you are s-such id-diots! You d-don't even s-see that ev-verything you're s-saying - how it would be b-b-bad for cats who a-aren't in the Clan - is a r-reason to j-join the C-Clan! I don't n-need a lead-der! A leader needs m-me!"

"Well, what if we don't want to live in a Clan? What if we like making our own decisions? I prefer living alone to living in a Clan, and because of that, I would be hungrier and homeless if a Clan were to form. And besides, you're the idiot because you're the one who wants to spend the rest of your life following orders and never getting to do what you want!" Rainstripe replied angrily. It made sense that some cats would join a Clan for safety and food, but why would they want to spend the rest of their life doing exactly what the leader said?

"Well y-you're just st-stupid to not w-want to live in a C-Clan. I k-keep t-telling you, ob-bviously it's b-b-better to be p-part of the Clan, so d-don't not be part of th-the Clan and then c-complain bec-cause it's w-worse that way. And f-following orders isss wh-what I want, c-cricketbrain! What's t-taking you s-so l-long to g-g-get it?" Shortwhisker hissed, crouching. He looked her over with dull-amber eyes, estimating how difficult it would be to fight her.

Rainstripe rolled her eyes. "Sure, I'd love to have the food benefits, but I don't want a Clan lifestyle. I keep telling you that and yet you still don't understand! Besides, there are other cats who don't want a Clan. You just want to follow orders because you're too stupid to make your own decisions!" Normally, she wasn't an insulting kind of cat, but Shortwhisker just made her so angry! She looked at him, noticing his crouched posture. Did he want to fight her? If so, he was even stupider than she thought. "You're outnumbered, cricketbrain!" she meowed, flicking her tail towards Palepaw and Beetlepaw.

Shortwhisker glanced at the other she-cats. "B-but they w-w-wouldn't help you! You're a-all a b-bunch of c-cons, and cons d-don't work t-tog-gether!"

"And why exactly can't we work together? We may not like /living/ together, but I'm sure we could cooperate for one fight," Rainstripe replied, looking at the two she-cats. Would they fight with her if Shortwhisker attacked? Hopefully they would, but Rainstripe could possibly hold him off on her own.

"Or so says you," Beetlepaw shrugged upon hearing the 'cons don't work together' comment. "I would surely help Rainstripe; I don't have a reason why I wouldn't. So that makes two against one so far," she nodded, then glanced over at Palepaw.

Rainstripe felt grateful that she had Beetlepaw's support. Surely Shortwhisker wouldn't be so stupid to attack both her and Beetlepaw! It was two against one, and he'd almost surely lose. But Rainstripe didn't want to get injured, so she tried to persuade him to not fight. "It isn't smart to attack now. It's two, maybe three, against one," she replied, glancing over at Palepaw.

"But tha' isn't fair, three against one!" came an indignant voice, and Amberkit came into sight, right beside Shortwhisker. "Fighting isn't a way to solve problems, anyways-- Oh, heya Rainstripe!" The kit squealed, recognising the she-cat.
