ooc| The whole idealistic, "everyone is equal !"

"Th-that doesn't m-make any sense! A leader w-wouldn't need t-to make up f-for anything. The c-cats w-would make up for each-ch other's w-w-weaknesses by b-being in a Clan. You d-don't even know w-what you're saying," he snorted, then gave Frailheart a curt nod. "And every c-cat would be t-treated the s-same.
Except f-for the leader."

Branchkit shifted uneasily, her gaze darting from Shortwhisker and Patchfur. Maybe she shouldn't of made herself a part of this conversation at all. Fur could fly at any moment.
"A leader would be treated differently only because he or she needs to be there to be able to help the Clan. They don't exactly get more prey or anything like that. They get respect, loyalty, and such like every other cat, except that they use it to guide the Clan and help them."

Shortwhisker grinned. "Y-yes, yes, yes," he purred, taking a seat and wrapping his black tail around himself. "L-listen to the k-kit. Even one s-so young c-can underst-stand."

Ooc: Yeah, that's his motto. Everyone is equal!
Bic: Patchfur nodded at Frailheart. "A leader would only increase the limitations of disabled cats. From what I heard about Clans, disabled cats were sent to the elders' den. I think that's just proof of how the leaders didn't care about them. They wouldn't listen to them. If we all decided on things together, those disabled cats would be able to use their strengths. Strengths that they, and not a leader, would know. A blind cat could use his keener sense of smell to find food. A deaf cat could read his opponent's eyes and be able to tell where they were going to move. A leader would just stick them in the elders' den. That isn't fair. Everyone has strengths. But if we all had a say in things, disabled cats would be able to control their own lives. Everyone in the clan would be equal, even the disabled cats. And who says a leader is the only one that can guide the clan? What makes them better at that job than a normal cat?" Patchfur asked.

"But they were sent to the elders den for a reason," objected the she-cat.
"A blind cat could use his sense of smell to hunt, but what about fighting? They wouldn't be able to know what their opponent was going to do. And cats that are deaf can't hear the commands given in battle, so he won't be able to know what to do. And the enemy doesn't always look at where they're going to strike. Leaders are able to understand that, which is why they are leaders at all. They do it to protect the cats that are disabled."
It made perfect sense to her, so just why couldn't Patchfur understand?

"Well of course, the blind cats would only be sent on hunting missions. Deaf cats would have a cat to show them when to stop. Do you think it's fair that those cats are sent to the elders' den? I don't. It wasn't even their fault, and now they have to suffer for it. Sure, disabled cats would be protected if they sat in the elders' den for their entire lives, but how would /you/ like it? Never being able to hunt or fight, never being able to do anything except just sit there, and it wasn't even your fault. That's cruel. It's unfair. They don't deserve that. They deserve better," Patchfur meowed firmly. He wouldn't want to sit in the elders' den his whole life because he couldn't see. The tom hoped that Branchkit, who was a kit and therefore more active than an older cat, would understand how cruel it was to force them to do nothing their whole lives.

"Disabled cats survive just fine right now," Frailheart meowed. "But in a Clan they would be shifted to the elders' den to sit there all day long. Think about it this way: if disabled cats couldn't survive now, would we actually know very much about them? Would we even bother to talk about them if there were no disabled cats alive today? No. But the thing is, there are disabled cats in this place, and they've been able to survive just fine, or they wouldn't be here. So they don't really need to be protected. In a Clan, disabled cats are treated differently from other cats-or do I have my story wrong?"
