Cats Can't Cry

[Ten]

"Mother is always right!" he barked, spinning to face her. "Always! Y-you only s-say otherw-wise b-because you're t-too stupid, you d-don't know... She knows everything, and you d-don't - you don't kn-know anyth-thing, so st-stop polluting th-the air with your t-talk!" His words were offensive, but his eyes held the troubled sadness of an orphaned kit.

[Thistle]

Branchkit flinched at his sharp reply. She bit her tongue, trying to control herself, but she still felt frustration well up inside her. "No one is perfect. I don't know why you don't understand, or what you're feeling right now, but no one's perfect!"

Is he insane or what? thought the tabby she-cat, her tail tip twitching with annoyance. "Insulting other cats won't get you anywhere, you know," she mewed.
"The only reason why you think you're mother knows everything is because you agree with everything she says or thinks! That doesn't mean she's always right!"

[Ten]

"I agree with w-what she says b-because she is right. Our a-ancestors were p-part of R-RiverClan. They made this b-building and the Clan f-fell apart. We n-need make a C-Clan again. All of that is r-right! I d-don't know why you d-don't understand!"

[Thistle]

The she-cat paused before she spoke, clearly thinking about what to say. Then Branchkit took a deep breath and mewed, "Of course all that is right. I was talking about other things, like hunting and fighting techniques and stuff like that."

He's probably gonna' say that his mother was right in all that stuff too, thought the brown tabby.

[Ten]

"Are y-you calling m-my mother w-weak?" he growled, though it was with less ferocity than before. His mother had taught him to be dogmatic about Clanhood. He still felt an overpowering loyalty to her, but defending her physical abilities was not as important.

[Thistle]

"No. I'm just saying that her opinions on fighting and hunting might be different than others, and some could be wrong," retorted Branchkit, her tail tip twitching.
Then, in a calmer voice than before, she said, "My own mother made mistakes too, you know." She felt a pang of sorrow and sighed, shaking her head. Maybe she should leave right now, that way she didn't have to see her mother's unmoving shape lying nearby.

[Ten]

"L-listen, Branchkit, y-you're the one who's w-wrong. Stop - j-just - stop d-disrespecting your elders! What I s-say is true. Leave it at th-that." He gave a sharp nod, expecting her to obey.

[Thistle]

"Disrespecting my elders?" she repeated, fury raging inside her. He was the one who was being rude to everyone! Branchkit lashed her tail and glared at the tom. "You really think I care?"

[Ten]

"You sh-should. Your e-elders are older th-than you," he stated, as if this were some profound revelation. "I-I've lived long th-than you have. I d-done more. I've seen m-more."

[Thistle]

Twitching her tail irritably, Branchkit thought, What's the point of continuin' this conversation?
To Shortwhisker, she mewed, "I'm going now." Waving her tail high in the air, she flashed a glare in the direction of the tuxedo tom and left the area. Her stomach grumbled slightly; she was getting hungry.
