"As for proof of their validity, there is none, but there is also no proof of their invalidity," she replied. Whether or not he believed the elder's tales did not trouble her. She pressed the more important issue. "So then, you would obey orders to hunt? You would obey orders to huddle with your clanmates during the night? You would obey orders to locate water sources?" She paused. "...or would you rather not do these things?"

[Gosh]

"I would obey orders to hunt when I was hungry; I would obey orders to locate water sources when I was thirsty. As for huddling with clanmates, I always do that - doesn't everyone else?" Bronzefoot meowed.

"But what if the leader's request was stupid?" Beetlepaw asked, entering the conversation once more. "It might be unlikely, but we can't say that there isn't the chance that it might be. And if it was, who would want to follow that?"

[Ten]

"You misunderstand, Bronzefoot. If you were to hunt and find water when not in want of either, you could prevent hunger and thirst from troubling you."

Woodstripe paused. "Not well-thought out, you mean?" she asked in response to Beetlepaw. "What sort of command would this be? In any case, if the majority of the Clan were against it, then the leader would reconsider, realize his or her folly, and retract the order."

[Gosh]

"Hunger and thirst do not trouble me, Woodstripe, not unless I feel them very strongly, for they are a part of life," Bronzefoot meowed. After a moment, he added, "However, should everyone do as you say, and hunt and find water when not in need of either, wouldn't the food and water deplete faster than they replenish?"

[Ten]

"Their strong feeling is what you would prevent by preparing yourself beforepaw. To become hungry and thirsty, yes, this is a part of life, but it is not necessary to have an arid tongue and an aching belly before one is satisfied. As for the supply, cats have always ate and drank and they will continue to do so. That is not what would be changed."

[moddy]

"Yeah, yeah, that's what I mean," the tabby nodded. "I'm not sure, but it's possible. And what if they didn't reconsider? Sometimes cats think they are right about something when clearly, they aren't. But they don't care that they're wrong, they'll just continue to say that they're right and that the right way is wrong."

[Gosh]

"Yes, but if hunting and finding water were more efficient and cats went to hunt and search for water when they were not in need of it, then more water would be found and food would be hunted, leading to the faster rate of depletion," Bronzefoot meowed patiently.

[Ten]

"Though I doubt such a leader would ever be chosen to begin with, the simple solution to this would be impeachment." Woodstripe allowed her green eyes to drift across the walls. "You know, Bronzefoot, I don't think our habitat's carrying capacity has been tested before. In our first few days as a Clan, we would monitor this with utmost care. Once the limits were determined, we could alter our consumption in accordance."

"You doubt it, but it's possible. Once that cat was to become leader, he or she could change. Maybe he or she could try and take advantage of the 'power' she was given from the leader rank." The she-cat pointed out. "But, then again, I'm just making assumptions, I guess." She shrugged.
