Frailheart? Woodstripe stowed that away in her memory.
"In compliance with your first statement, I didn't classify the reptile as necessary for my survival for this day, thus I made a gift of it. My generosity is not meant to put others in debt. Would it have been better to push the corpse through one of the gaps in the wall or toss it to the rats? I prefer not to be wasteful, but rather, aid those of my own kind. In a way, giving to other cats is like giving to oneself - not because one expects or desires to receive anything in return, but because we are alike in flesh and blood. We belong together, have always been together, will always be together, and should work together."

Beetlepaw snorted. She had began to think that they were done with this Clan conversation. 'Guess I was wrong,' she thought to herself, annoyed. She hated being wrong. "Even though you say we should work together, I know many cats who won't. Me, for instance. I'd rather be by myself. The only reason I ever talk to or work with other cats is 'cause I feel like it at the moment or I absolutely feel like it. Most of the time, though, I barely ever do." She pointed out.

Woodstripe nodded to Beeltepaw. "This is because you have not seen the value in companionship and are not aware of its benefits. If I thought of interacting with others as without point or even negative in worth, I would avoid it as well - but such is not so."

"I haven't seen the value? What do you mean by that?" The tabby asked, confused. It was true that she hadn't seen the value in companionship, since she never thought that there was much benefits from it. "But you don't think of it that way... why don't you?" She asked.

"Besides the mere fact that I take pleasure in conversing with others and hearing new viewpoints, I know that two cats working together to achieve a common goal accomplish more than two separate cats on their own. We can't all live in total solitude, of course, so why not band together?" Woodstripe suggested. "I see that as a more satisfying existence. Now, unlike myself, you are not convinced that living as a Clan is better than living in our current fashion, correct? If so, it is because you do not see what good would come of it."

"Because we don't all need to band together. I mean, sometimes, cats get together to hunt down a rat or to stay warm, but otherwise, we don't need to stay together long, much less forever." The tabby pointed out in response to the other she-cat's question. "Yeah, correct, 'cause it's not better. And that's because there can't possibly be any good comin' from it."

"Needs consist of food, water, and warmth, so yes, Clanhood is not among a cat's needs," she granted. "However, Clanhood helps satisfy those needs in a more fulfilling manner. As a Clan, we would encounter hunger less often and perhaps collaborate to find a way to regulate water consumption. We could be more efficient and thus, more comfortable and more content. I see this as something good coming from it."

Beetlepaw snorted. "But we don't really need to have them 'satisfied in a fulfilling manner', either. We've been living this way for a long time now and we can keep on living this way. We don't need to change, do we? And I don't care about being comfortable. That's for... sissies. We can live without comfort, so, yeah." She concluded.

Woodstripe forced a grin and dipped her head, patience waning, though she persisted with her point. "Yes, Beetlepaw, as I have said, cats need very little but can obtain much more. We can remain the way we've been or we can exchange this unproductive routine - or lack thereof - for something to be proud of. Why not take advantage of our numbers? As I see it, it is noble to undergo unpleasantness with good reason, but it is foolish without."

Beetlepaw blinked, not sure what to say next. "Uh... well, if we don't really need it, why should we try and obtain it? And who's to say that some cats aren't proud of how we are now?" She pointed out. "I... uh... we... well, some cats would prefer to be alone, so by 'taking advantage' of our numbers and forming a Clan, wouldn't we be forcing them to be part of it?" She asked, trying to change the subject since she really didn't know what to say.
