Gingerstream glanced over at Bronzefoot, "How is it unfair? I would think that over time, the leader would be able to tell who was actually loyal to the Clan. And the cat who seemed to be loyal enough and able to provide for the Clan well enough would be a good choice, clearly. If the leader were to pick a cat such as that, it would be fair to the Clan. A good choice, if you ask me, or any other cat." She shrugged.
"What I meant was, do you think that any cat would be willing to partake in the 'experimentation'? If so, whom, might I ask?" Beetlepaw cleared. "What do you mean by 'no longer be able to function'?"

"I for one would be willing to experiment with the effectiveness of a leader. Now, as for the function of a leader, it is to organize hunts and manage the food and water supply as well as keep the peace and maintain order. If a cat is insane, then said cat would not be able to accomplish this, as he or she would be caught up in their own illogical delusions. Do you disagree that a crazy cat does not make a good leader?" Before anyone could answer that, Woodstripe added, "And of course, the Clan would notice if their leader was not leading."

"Yes, but there are others, like me, who would not be willing to experiment with this. And without enough cats, the experiment would not be valid, I would think," Frailheart meowed calmly.

"This is true. I suppose I shall inquire for volunteers in this study. How many cats would you say, Frailheart, would make the experiment valid?" Woodstripe asked.

Frailheart considered. "I don't know," she admitted. "I'm not very good at estimating, but I do think that there is a certain number." She looked around uneasily.

Woodstripe fixed her green gaze on her. "Three? Three is not enough. Thirty? Less than that, of course. Five is too little still, while twenty is too much. What do you say to ten?"

Frailheart paused, then nodded. "Good luck finding cats who will participate," she meowed. She turned and walked away, tired of conversing with the brown she-cat. She did feel a little doubtful about not participating, however. 'If I participated, then I could tell others what I didn't like about it.' But she shook her head and continued padding away.
