"You seem to share a similar line of thought, Beetlepaw and Bronzefoot. If a cat were to become insane, it would be a simple enough task to dispatch of him or her. Now of course, I'm not sure what sort of effect leadership would have on a cat's mentality. In order to discover this, it would require experimentation, no?"

"It wouldn't be all that simple. As I have said before, cats who have followed this leader for a long time would not be that willing to dispatch of him. ...depends what you mean by experimentation. Enlighten me, please?" Beetlepaw mewed.

ooc| "what sort of affect" Ten, don't you mean 'effect'?
bic| "By 'experimentation' Woodstripe means that to see whether leadership could make a cat insane, someone would have to try out being leader," Bronzefoot growled. He scowled at Woodstripe openly.

Woodstripe nodded at Bronzefoot, beaming. "You are correct. Now, Beetlepaw, as you were saying about the transfer of power - you imply that cats would want to follow a cat who is deranged and incapable of leading. I don't know any cats who would do that; do you?"

"....oh. Well, who do you know that would be willing to do that, Woodstripe? I sure don't know any," she asked. "Well, cats wouldn't want to believe that their leader was insane at first, so maybe they would decide not to believe it. Mhm. I know quite a few who would."

"And those cats who would not believe the reports of insanity might defend their leader from being taken away from their position of power," Frailheart meowed. "And of course, an insane cat who believed they could do anything would not be removed from leadership quietly."

"Pardon me, Beetlepaw; I do not understand what you are asking. Now, concerning unstable cats, it is clear when someone has lost their sanity. As such, a leader who is insane would no longer be able to function. Whether cats were fond of their previous leader or not, another cat (perhaps the deputy, if sufficient) could take up the position. You must understand, the leader would not be so distant that there would be but 'reports' of him or her. Any Clan cat could see the leader for themselves and be able to determine his or her state of mind. Frailheart, have I not addressed the removal issue? One cat cannot stand against an entire Clan."

"Deputy?" Bronzefoot spoke up. "I haven't heard you speak of a 'deputy' before, Woodstripe. What would the deputy do? And let's say the old leader died. What if the deputy had been a good candidate when elected deputy, but there was someone better for the job of leader once the leader died? Would there be an election, or would the deputy be guaranteed leadership?"

"The deputy assists the leader, though the leader has final say on decisions. Now, procedure regarding the unfortunate passing of the leader would be decided by the Clan during reformation. However, I suggest that the deputy would be made leader with the well-qualified cat as the new deputy - that is, unless the Clan majority thought otherwise. What do you propose would make this cat better qualified than the one selected by the former leader?"

"The leader has the final say?" Bronzefoot meowed. "I thought that the leader would not be able to command others whenever they felt like it. But now that you're saying that the leader has the final say..." He shook his head. "And hang on a minute - the deputy would be selected by the leader? That's not really fair, now is it?"
