Beetlepaw glanced over at Frailheart, the she-cat who had just entered the conversation. She nodded a bit as she agreed, "That's exactly what I meant. That if a cat thought that they could do anything, just because of their ranking, that would surely make them crazy. Or am I mistaken?" Her gaze traveled over to Woodstripe and she mewed, "But, if cats were to have a certain leader for a while, they would be somewhat loyal to them, so not all cats would be willing to change authorities." She pointed out.

"Yes, there is the possibility that not all cats would hear the insane command; and who would you believe at least at first: your beloved leader who had been your leader for a long time, or the leader's servants?" Bronzefoot challenged. 'I wonder if she will back down,' he thought, a little amused. 'She has no one else on her side at the moment - though of course that could change.'

"The leader's 'servants'?" A ginger she-cat paused on her way past them. She laughed a bit at the suggestion of cats being servants to a leader. "I don't think they would be servants. More like followers, really." The tabby had been trying to escape a certain tom when she had heard their conversation. She could always stop and chat with other cats. This might be the only chance she had for a while, as long as her son was around. She sat down a few tail-lengths away from them, waiting for a response.

"Servants...followers...same thing, just a difference in the degree of loyalty," Bronzefoot meowed with a shrug. "Sorry for not being clear enough. I am Bronzefoot." His ears twitched and he looked at the newcomer with interest. 'A Clanner if I've ever seen one,' he thought, a bit annoyed.

"No, not necessarily. Servants are forced to follow something, where as followers have the choice of whether to follow something or not." She mewed, rolling her eyes. She gave a brief nod, "Nice to meet you, Bronzefoot. I am Gingerstream." She chuckled again, "So, I see that you obviously oppose the idea of a Clan, no?"

"So it would seem," the large tabby replied. She dipped her head in lavish, formal greeting. "Good day, Gingerstream. I am Woodstripe and I am pleased to see you've joined us. You are correct; followers have a choice. Now Beetlepaw, if I have heard correctly, you have presumed that leaders can do anything?"

Gingerstream nodded towards Woodstripe in a way of saying that she had acknowledged and heard her. She really didn't find it necessary to reply to the other she-cat's comment, even if it would be polite.
Beetlepaw shook her head, "No. I have said that leaders might think that they can do anything, when, really, they can't. If a cat thinks that they can do anything, that could certainly lead to insanity over time, yes?" The tabby asked.

Woodstripe twitched her whiskers, becoming somber and serious. "A cat who would think themselves capable of anything is already insane - not to mention far to arrogant to earn good opinion. Clanhood does allow the range of possibilities to expand past the norm but these are still within a finite range and even so, these expansions require the full, unanimous effort of each Clan member. Any cat who doesn't understand that can't lead a Clan."

Bronzefoot shook his head. "You misunderstand," he meowed, trying not to sound exasperated. "A cat which was perfectly sane and kind at one point could be elected leader. Then, over time, the amount of power they have might lead them to believe they could do anything."

"No, I mean that they could start out perfectly sane, but after they've been leader for a while, they could start thinking that they can do anything, which would lead to insanity." Beetlepaw pointed out. The tabby had to snicker at the last comment. "So, you would obviously make a great leader since you understand that so well." She muttered.
