I'm not sure how they would do it. But that's just Beetlepaw's fears. I would think that she would try to avoid something that she fears as best as she could.

She fears that they would turn on her, as I said before. And by 'turn on her' she means use her, then leave her or try to get rid of her.

Use her to help themself reach something, to get a more powerful position, etc.
