Redstream patiently awaited an answer which would not come - and when this was made obvious, she let out a soft mew of a sigh. "It seems," she said, watching the tom's facial expressions closely, "that you simply aren't going to tell us your name. Well, no one is forcing you to do so, but we still need something to refer to you with. It would not be polite to call you 'white tom' throughout everything, would it?"

The thought of making up a name for Frozenheart never once crossed her mind, for Redstream was a very polite cat, and such a rude action was rejected automatically. The tabby paused and hoped that this time she would recieve a reply that would be much more satisfactory.

[Ten]

Frozenheart lifted his shoulders in something of a shrug, then nodded. He wouldn't mind it all if they only called him "white tom", though it seemed they would mind. Why didn't they just guess what his name was? That would be funny - even more than Redstream thinking she could make him talk.

[Gosh]

"Does your name make you ashamed?" Frailheart meowed. "There is no reason to be. We will not laugh." She smiled at him genuinely, resisting the urge to tilt her head to her side. 'I don't see what name he would be ashamed of,' she thought. 'Perhaps something that does not suit his personality?'

[Ten]

He responded to Frailheart's question with another shake of the head. Ashamed? No. Frozenheart had grown rather fond of his name; he had earned it. What he wasn't fond of was speaking it. Though he had watched his name form on the mouths of other cats, it had never left his own. He didn't intend to let it.

Would it be such a difficult thing to think of him as the white tom?

[Gosh]

'So he isn't ashamed of his name,' Frailheart thought. 'What reason does he have not to speak it, then?'
She shrugged to herself and thought, 'Well, I won't pry.' She hesitated a little bit, then meowed, "Well, how has life fared for you two lately?"

Redstream quietly followed the nodding and shaking, and the questions. At Frozenheart's responses, her eyes dulled in disagreement, but her smile was still present. Frailheart had proven that he felt no shame for his name, so there had to be another reason he wasn't speaking.

The red tabby wondered what it was like to be deaf. You wouldn't be able to hear other cats, but perhaps you could read their mouths. You wouldn't be able to hear your own voice either, though. Maybe the tom was simply afraid of how his voice might come out? It was a silly thing, in Redstream's opinion, for that to be the case, so she put it out of her mind.

"It has been reasonable. I ran into a couple of rather rude crickets which I made quick work of - that had been a nice tuck-in. How about you?"

[Gosh]

"Oh, same old same old," Frailheart said breezily. She paused, not sure what to say next. Were they to start debating on the topic of a Clan? 'If we are,' she thought, 'I won't be the one to bring it up. After all, if the white tom doesn't speak, he can't participate very well. Or can he?' She wondered how many debates he had taken part in, if any.

ooc "After all, if the white tom doesn't speak, he can't participate very well." That's an important thing to point out, Gosh. Ten, you yourself agreed that the main point of this forum are the debates. If such is so, then what use would Frozenheart be?

He's to be a minimal character, of course, but he comes in handy for any sort of physical conflict (my two tabbies are quite useless in combat).
