Where are the people that accused me? The ones who beat me down and bruised me They hide just out of sight, can't face me in the light They'll return but I'll be stronger
Rainstripe had seemed nice... a little out of it, but nice, Whitewhisker thought, kind of disappointed with the way things had gone over with some she-cats he met earlier. Pebbletail was a little rude. His white fur bristled, trying to reassure himself. He was still lazing around and about on the flat stone. His spine shivered when he felt the antenna and legs of a bug on his back. He was able to reach it and nip its shell with ease, but was still freaked out. Though the taste was foul, he ate the insect whole.

The Experiment, the friendship of other Clanners, his warrior name... all those things had definitely boosted up a certain gray cat's self-esteem. He no longer felt as lonely as he had once been, although sometimes he wondered where Branchkit was. She would be older now... maybe even with a mate and kits. Or she might be still moving around the enclosure. After all, she was the restless type, whereas Bat-tail was more comfortable staying in one area for long periods of time.
For once, however, Bat-tail strayed away from his fellow Clan mates, as he now liked to think of them. Perhaps he would find more Clanners and be able to persuade them to join the Experiment. But it would be disastrous if he picked a con. Cons were violent savages; well, most of them were. And if they found out about the Experiment, what would happen then? They might even try and 'overthrow' it or something.
Bat-tail considered on how he would start a conversation. He certainly couldn't reveal too much information at first. Hmm, a simple "Hi" would have to work for now. Looking around, he spotted exactly what he was searching for: a cat. Which wasn't too hard, but the white tom was the closest. Padding toward him, he coughed slightly to make his presence known and after hesitating for a second, he meowed, "Hi there, I'm B-Bat-tail. Who're you?"

God I want to dream again, take me where I've never been I wanna go there, this time I'm not scared Now I am unbreakable, it's unmistakable No one can touch me, nothing can stop me
The long furred white tom had been resting after his skin crawling experience with the insect, but once again, a stranger came to disturb him. He looked up at the other cat: a dark grey tabby with a white chin. This visitor was a tom, and seemed more polite than the other two she-cats he had encountered earlier.
Whitewhisker up-righted himself to face Bat-tail, as he called himself, directly. Hi, I'm Whitewhisker, he said. How was he? That was questionable, and something he preferred not to answer right now. I'm a pro. And you? It seemed cliche, and quite bland, for a conversation. More like the kind of dialogue you would hear being said when someone was trying to learn a new language. Hello. How are you? I am fine. And you? What's your name? Mine is... Etcetera, etcetera.

At Whitewhisker's greeting, Bat-tail visibly relaxed. He was a Clanner, and a friendly one at that. Whiskers bristling, he mewed, "I'm a Clanner too! D'you know about something called the Experiment yet? I'm a member," he added proudly, puffing out his chest.

Sometimes it's hard to just keep going But faith is moving without knowing Can I trust what I can't see to reach my destiny? I want to take control but I know better
Now this had Whitewhisker's attention. No, I've never heard of the Experiment, he meowed, but pleased that the dark furred tom was a Clanner. He was obviously proud of the position, and the white tom suppressed a purr. Is it something I should be interested in joining?

Darkfur, frankly, was bored out of his insignificant mind. There was no one to talk to, no one to irritate, swagger over, eagerly explain things to...nothing. Every cat these days was so darn stubborn, so focused on their own pathetic little beliefs. Like they'd ever get anything done, cons or Clanners alike. Well, cons never did anything, except sabotage Clan attempts.
It was why he didn't consider himself a true con - they were too barbaric, no knowledge of what was higher in life. They could never see the big picture. Though the Clanners were noble in their efforts, they never seemed to realized that they would eternally be sabotaged because there would always be hardheaded lizardbrain cons in the walls.
Which was why his beliefs were perfect, a happy medium.
Oh look, two toms, gray and white. Let's go talk to them, shall we?
The big brown tabby strode over in his grandstanding way, head lofty and strides smooth. But he paused midway to the pair, listening to what they were saying.
"An Experiment? Experiment of what? Will it succeed? Who's in it? Why is it happening?"

"The Experiment's a kind of mini-Clan that Woodstripe made. She and the members are testing Clan life." He paused for breath, then continued, "And yeah, if you want to try living in a Clan, you should join! We've got a leader and a deputy and everything... even elders!"
Bat-tail turned at the sound of Darkfur's paw steps. "An Experiment? Experiment of what? Will it succeed? Who's in it? Why is it happening?" The dark tabby blinked at the flood of questions, and after a minute of thought, he replied, "It's about experiencing Clan life and we're making a lot of progress, so I think we'll succeed, yeah. And a lot of cats are in it; Woodstripe made it, though, and Spiderpaw is leader and Redstream is deputy. I'm part of it too, 'course. And we're doing it so that, um... we have better knowledge of how a Clan works. Plus, cons might like living in a Clan and become Clanners."

An actual Clan! Now there was something that caught the white tom's interest. I would be more than happy to join this Experiment, Bat-tail, he said honestly. Clan life was something Whitewhisker was always interested in, and he had considered trying to make his own. By himself, it would have been a lot of work, so he had to give Woodstripe, Spiderpaw, and Redstream a lot of credit for their efforts. He wondered if he would ever be able to meet these noble cats. A dark shape made itself known out of the corner of Whitewhisker's eye, and having nothing really of interest to say, he simply nodded his head to the newcomer.

Darkfur nodded, his eyes cool but amused. Always appear less interested than you are, he remembered.
Because he was quite interested. Even if this "Experiment" was doomed to failure (as it probably was, despite Bat-tail's reassurances) this could be a good chance to always have some to advertise talk to. He might be able to spread his ideas more easily. And how hard could living in a Clan be, anyway? The rewards exceeded the risk, which was being attacked by cons. Even if they were, he could simply slip away. Or join the cons.
Changing sides was easy for the tom, if there was something for him in it.
"I'll join. Can't promise I'll stay forever, but I'll give it a try."
There was no harm in telling the truth, after all. How would they know what he truly meant?

Bat-tail's face lit up at Whitewhisker's reply. "That's great! You'll have to see Spiderstripe to sorta 'officially' join first, though." He turned to Darkfur. "That's still alright, 'cause I don't think a few cats are staying for a long time either. Some are just trying out."
