 An Eye to Listen
« Thread Started on Nov 8, 2009, 4:31pm »

Frozenheart yawned and stretched. He hadn't seen Beetlepaw in a while. Perhaps he should find her and see if there were any thing he could do for the rebellion; perhaps he should check up on that yellow tabby he'd taught hunting skills earlier. Speaking Thinking of yellow tabbies, where was Frailheart? Was she alright?

With these thoughts in mind, he ambled without aim. He didn't have to think about where he was going. He knew the enclosure by heart, and his paws were the sort that often led him to friends.

This....this was odd. For once Darkfur found himself without anyone to plead to, no one to hear of his masterful plans. His memories of watching two cats fighting over a lizard earlier that day were still fresh in his mind. He shuddered, his bright eyes wide. So much fighting, so much pointless, pointless....evil. There was no one to talk to now, no cats in sight...except for that one over there. Grateful that at least there was someone for him to talk to, the tabby tom swiftly ran over to him, despite his not knowing or ever having seen the cat before. He sat down."I am Darkfur. May I talk to you?" He said, hoping the answer would be yes.

OOC: Sorry for the failness. x-x

ooc| If you keep talking like that I'm going to... do something vague.

Frozenheart, not having seen him approach, jumped in surprise. The question left him taken aback - was this tom a Clanner? It was a common practice among them to go about preaching. Perhaps Darkfur knew he was a con, or even that he was in the rebellion, and wanted to talk him out of it. Fat chance of that. There was no way he'd ever switch sides. Wary all the same, the white tom gave a hesitant yet curious nod.

Elatedness swept through the tabby tom. Now....to business! He cleared his throat and adjusted his tie. "I am a con, though not of the ordinary kind. Though I believe the creation of a Clan is impossible and useless, I do think cats should be under leaders if they so wish. It would lead to less violence. Therefore, I am trying - for now - to spread awareness of my ideas in hope that cats will at least listen. The leaders I envision would be there for everyone's sake, and would have different ideas that cats could choose to follow. Perhaps you yourself could be one! What do you think of my idea?" He was excited now, settling into his element. Now, what would this cat think?

Frozenheart had thought he was taken aback a moment earlier, but after Darkfur's outpouring of words, he was beyond that. Eyebrows raised to the crest of his forehead and leaning back a little, the white tom stared at this supposed "con" for several seconds before realizing he was expecting an answer. He must've been expecting a full, verbal response, at that.

Unsure what else to do, he shook his head. He didn't disagree with all of it, but it was still Clanner talk.

The smile on Darkfur's face disappeared as soon as it had come. Why....why wasn't this cat saying anything? He shook his head, but....most cats at least either meowed that they thought he was insane or told him to go away. Reconsidering his marketing plans what he should say now, he mewed softly, "Can...can you speak? Unless you disagree with my ideas but are too polite to tell me so. Well, even if you don't, thank you for being so polite! It can be rare these days to find such a cat as you. But really, I hope you do at least give what I've said some consideration and maybe even tell other cats?" His face, though bright, was overly anxious, overly full of begging. Darkfur was starting to get worried.

He had begun to shake his head at the first question, but Darkfur was already moving on, blabbering about this and that, even suggesting that Frozenheart tell other cats about this convoluted plan. He shook his head again. Seeing Darkfur's anxiety, however, was something he didn't have the heart to bear. The white tom tried to cheer him up, rubbing against him with a soft purr. He didn't disagree with him on everything.

The tabby con was shocked beyond belief. But not unpleasantly so. Not in his life had any cat other than his mother had ever displayed affection for him. Not Nightnose; he had been too busy fighting to pay attention to his son. Not Whitefoot; he had somewhat cared about his apprentice, but not really shown him affection, preferring instead simply to drum principles and skills into him. Not even his sister; they'd been friendly enough as kits, but once Darkfur had confided his views to her she'd treated him like a piece of dirt, the dedicated Clanner. The muscular tom had never known true friendship, however cliched it was. But it was there, a just-discovered hollowness, for no cat he'd talked to had ever shown him affection. "Thank you...I....don't know what to say."

OOC: -shot for cliche- faaaail.

Nightbreeze was itching for anyone, just anyone, to talk to. He had been trying to catch some measly crickets, but decided to see if he would have any luck in other ventures; the enclosure needed more Clanners. He wasn't quite arrogant enough to think that he could actually convert anyone, but he was always willing to try. So the black tom groomed his pelt for a minute and then walked up to the two cats.

"Hello," he meowed. "My name is Nightbreeze. And I was wondering if I might ask your opinion on something."

ooc| aww, Darkfur.

bic|

Frozenheart smiled and looked at his paws, not publicizing his thought that Darkfur not knowing what to say might be a good thing. This time he was alert enough, though, to notice movement and look up to see Nightbreeze as he came toward them. There was that Clanner tactic again - but after meeting Darkfur, he couldn't be sure this was a 100% not-from-concentrate Clanner purist.

With an "I don't see why not" sort of attitude, Frozenheart nodded his consent.

Starless is a small, unique feline role play forum, created in August of 2008, with an intriguing but flexible plot that allows everyone to be involved. Please, feel free to take a look around. All guests are welcome to use the ooc boards and the chatbox.

Starless is set in a fictional desert. Temperatures are extreme - high during the day and low at night. The majority of the terrain consists of rugged stone with sand and dust coating the surface. Occasional rain leaves puddles for the cats to drink from. The enclosure's walls are built from stone and wood, though the poor craftsmanship resulted in many gaps and cracks, which allow light to reach through. However, these tiny hints of light are not enough for plants to grow, leaving the enclosure even more barren than the desert outside.

It is the dark season. Nights are long. During the day, clouds often cover the sun, making the scarce light even dimmer. Good thing cats can see in the dark.
